Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Presa community service center is a nonprofit, multi service organization established to meet the social needs of the san antonio community through its major programs. The center provides services in economically depressed areas throughout the city of san antonio and bexar county through the following programs: counseling - addresses the special needs of families and individuals in crisis by a licensed counselor on a sliding fee scale. It offers services that address the prevention of child abuse, substance abuse, family violence and effective parenting that enhances family functioning. Social services - helps individuals and families in crisis by providing emergency food and clothing assistance, baby formula, usda commodities, rent and utility support. Nutrition - provides senior citizens with well-balanced hot meals five days a week and enhances social interaction through field trips and arts & crafts activities. Other major programs - youth, parent engagement, transportation, finaci

The center improves lives by providing access to needed resources and tools for social and personal transformation. The center envisions a community where individuals and families, businesses, and institutions are actively engaged with each other in positive relationships that improve the physical environment, reduce social and economic facts that contribute to the cycle of poverty, and improve the quality of life for all.

Parent engagement - the psc partnership is a parent-driven, parent engagement project. In 2018 we had over 16,705 parents attend parent partnership events and activities with the project operating in 13 schools in the san antonio independent school district and in the south san independent school district. They work with parents of students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grade at the following schools: riverside park academy, herff elementary, page middle school, green elementary,smith elementary,hillcrest elementary, highland hills elementary, poe middle school, young women's leadership academy,palo alto elementary,kindred elementary, zamora middle school and rogers middle school. Their goal is to determine what barriers prevent them from being involved with the school, assist them in becoming involved and work with them to get other parents involved.

Other program services - youth programs provide social development for youth and stresses prevention of delinquency and substance abuse, while promoting educational opportunities and providing adult-supervised recreational activities. The youth program also provides meals for children after school and during the summer via the san antonio food bank's kid cafe. Services were provided to 439 youths throughout the year. The nutrition program provides senior citizens with well-balanced hot meals five days a week and monthly commodities of food. This program also enhances social interaction through field trips and arts and craft activities. Services were provided to 272 senior adults. The counseling program addresses the special needs of families and individuals in crisis by a licensed counselor on a sliding scale. It offers services that address the prevention of child abuse, substance abuse, family violence and effective parenting that enhances family functioning. The financial literacy program provides volunteer income tax return services during tax season. Presa completed 1,163 tax returns and processed 1,675,196 in tax refunds for the community members.

The center adopted the provisions of fasb asc topic 740-10-25, income taxes - overall - recognition, which requires recognition and disclosure of uncertain tax positions in the financial statements and footnotes. Management believes it has no material uncertain tax positions, and accordingly, it will not recognize any liability for unrecognized tax benefits. The center did not recognize any interest or penalties as of june 30, 2019.

THEY WORK WITH PARENTS OF STUDENTS IN THE FOURTH, FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE AT THE FOLLOWING SCHOOLS: RIVERSIDE PARK ACADEMY, HERFF ELEMENTARY, PAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL, GREEN ELEMENTARY,SMITH ELEMENTARY,HILLCREST ELEMENTARY, HIGHLAND HILLS ELEMENTARY, POE MIDDLE SCHOOL, YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP ACADEMY,PALO ALTO ELEMENTARY,KINDRED ELEMENTARY, ZAMORA MIDDLE SCHOOL AND ROGERS MIDDLE SCHOOL. THEIR GOAL IS TO DETERMINE WHAT BARRIERS PREVENT THEM FROM BEING INVOLVED WITH THE SCHOOL, ASSIST THEM IN BECOMING INVOLVED AND WORK WITH THEM TO GET OTHER PARENTS INVOLVED.

THE NUTRITION PROGRAM PROVIDES SENIOR CITIZENS WITH WELL-BALANCED HOT MEALS FIVE DAYS A WEEK AND MONTHLY COMMODITIES OF FOOD.
