Activity 2

The Houston Parks Board assists with special projects to promote cultural activities and athletic events as well as managing trust accounts for City supported park and community programs.

Activity 3

The Houston Parks Board's Land Acquisition Program is focused on the expansion of the City's park system, in partnership with the City's Parks and Recreation Department, Harris County Flood Control District and other entities. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for Houstonians by acquiring more parkland to ensure availability of equitably distributed park spaces as the city continues its aggressive growth. One area of particular focus is acquiring green spaces along the bayous to help improve flood prevention while providing park amenities for the community. A significant component in accomplishing this goal is constructing trails along the bayous. In FY 2012 HPB began design work and continued land acquisition work on White Oak Bayou and Brays Bayou. The HPB Land Acquisition Program acquired $664,245 in property for additional greenspaces and granted $63,441 to the Houston Parks Board LGC for purchase of land assets. HPB also granted $15,724 to the City of Houston for purchase of land assets. In the fiscal year ending 6/30/2012, the HPB Board approved a contribution of $70,000 to the newly formed Parks For Greater Houston for the purpose of encouraging the passage of a bond issue to fund park projects.
