With the crisis presented by opioid use in this country, substance use in also prevalent in the aging psychiatric population. It is imperative, therefore, that a comprehensive view of addiction from basic science to clinical practice in the context of current medico-legal climate deserves the attention of all psychiatrists. How to sustain the membership and the health of our professional organization through advocacy efforts was discussed as psychiatrists must create our own comfort zone for the practice of psychiatry.B) The program "Ground Zero: Oklahoma's Shocking Opioid Epidemic: Risk Management Considerations when Practicing Addiction Psychiatry" was presented by each of the two local chapters through an expedited grant funded by the American Psychiatric Association.
