Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 1, Part I, Line 6

There are 13 board members that volunteer their time as well as others giving their time for the adoption service and healthcare clinic.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Undergraduate healthcare students, as well as conference attendance, retreats, and a speaker's series. Each of these opportunities was designed to educate and inspire medical and pre-med students to choose primary care, internal medicine, and charitable care as their specialty. The value of capacity building initiatives totaled 20,900 and included in-kind gifts of consulting, training, workshops, and presentations. It also included 2,800 for community capacity events for local non-profit organizations.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

From oac's fully licensed charitable pharmacy, and there were 600 patients who received enrollment support for pharmaceutical patient assistance programs (pap), which provided 3.7 million dollars in medications to oac patients. The operation of the clinic is very much a community collaboration with lab, radiology and diagnostic services, such as mammograms and colonoscopies, as well as other specialty care services accessed for oac patients through local specialty providers, as well as through a partnership with the charitable community referral network operated by the health alliance for the uninsured and through charitable support services received from deaconess hospital. Open arms clinic also hosted three city wide super saturdays for women health event clinics in collaboration with the health alliance for the uninsured in which 134 women were seen. Volunteer support comes from oklahoma county medical society physicians, residents from two family practice medical residency programs, students from three local nursing schools, pre-med students from three state universities, physician assistant students from two local university pa programs and medical students from the university of oklahoma. There are also other community volunteers that serve in a variety of support roles within the clinic. In 2016, open arms clinic received 5,223 hours of service from 170 volunteers. Ten of our volunteers received united states presidential medallions and letters from president obama recognizing their extensive volunteer contributions to open arms clinic. Of the total hours donated, 400 of the hours were donated by 43 medical providers. The estimated value of this volunteer time was 112,033. The total value of all donated medications and charitable services provided to open arms clinic patients in 2016 was over 4.7 million.

Currently, more than 6,000 adoption records are maintained that reach back more than 100 years. Deaconess pregnancy and adoption (dpa), is a social service agency of the free methodist church - usa and its purpose is charitable and religious in nature focused on positive outcomes for families by improving the homes of children, facilitating the adoption of children, assisting adoptive parents in the creation of their family and providing crisis intervention and counseling services. For men and women experiencing unplanned pregnancy, dpa provides counseling and accurate information regarding all options in an unconditionally accepting setting so that fully-informed decisions may be reached. Expectant parents in crisis are assisted in many ways including assistance in locating a medical provider, food, shelter, clothing and/or transportation and by connection with other resources and service providers in the community. For expectant parents who choose to make an adoption plan for their child, the agency is a licensed adoption provider and has a variety of christian prospective adoptive families approved to take a child into their home. Because our agency views the creation of a family by adoption as an ongoing journey, birth parents and adoptive families receive pre-education and counseling, as well as post adoption counseling and a variety of other support services.
