Ruth ann fate and steve fate have a family relationship. They are both board of trustee members.

The form 990 is prepared by an independent cpa firm. The form is reviewed by management provided to the board of the seminary prior to filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Board members are asked to fill out conflict of interest forms at the beginning of their term. Updates and changes are made annually. Each board member can only serve three 3-year terms before they are required to roll off the board for a full year. All employees are required to complete a conflict of interest form when they are initially hired, and they are updated annually at the beginning of each fiscal year. All conflict of interest forms are given to human resources who tracks compliance and notifies the administration of potential conflicts. All conflict of interest forms are mae available to the auditors during the annual audit.

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 4:

In prior years, phillips theological seminary corporation received donations of a library collection of rare books to be held for public exhibition, education and research. We also received a collection of 26 cuneiform tablets to be held for public exhibition, education and research.

PART V, LINE 4:

The seminary's endowment consists of approximately 200 individual funds establised primarily for scholarship and academic program support. The endowment includes both donor-restricted and quasi-endowment funds.

PART X, LINE 2:

Liability for uncertain tax positions: the seminary is exempt from income taxes under section 501 of the internal revenue code and a similar provision of state law. However, the seminary is subject to federal income tax on any unrelated business taxable income. The seminary files tax returns in the us federal jurisdiction. With a few exceptions, the seminary is no longer subject to us federal examinations by tax authorities for years before 2018.
