Maryville College is an undergraduate, liberal arts, residential community of faith and learning, serving students of all ages and backgrounds. We prepare students for lives of citizenship and leadership as we challenge each one to search for truth, grow in wisdom, work for justice and dedicate a life of creativity and service to the peoples of the world. In fiscal year 2021, the College served a full-time equivalent total of 987 students. The College has 67 programs of study and 15 Division III sports teams.

“The Form 990 is uploaded to the board portal and is available for all board members to see. Maryville College's Finance Committee reviews the annual form before it is filed. Committee members are encouraged to ask questions regarding the entries on the form. The form is not signed and submitted to the IRS until the members have had a chance to review and approve it.”
“Board members are required to complete a conflict of interest form each year. When a possible conflict is noted, the Administrative Assistant to the President informs the Vice President of Finance and Administration and the Business Office. A potential conflict of interest schedule is created. The schedule is referred to by the Business Office throughout the year. The College's purchasing policy prohibits transactions that may create a conflict of interest. All faculty and staff are reminded of the purchasing policy annually. All new employees are required to complete a conflict of interest form with the Human Resources Department. The conflict of interest policy is also posted on the College Faculty and Staff portal for reference and review.”
“Annual wage increases are approved by the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors after discussion and review of analysis of local, regional, and national wage increases and other economic issues. Once approved, the entire budget it brought to the full Board of Directors for review and approval. These meetings are documented by minutes. Salary increases for the President follow the same process with an additional step of having the Executive Committee of the Board finalize any increase.”

“The fine art collection is held for public exhibition and/or education. The Maryville College Clayton Center for the Arts has increased the desire and ability to share with the region art work with educational value. The College's collection consists of two sculptures and one painting at this time.”
“The endowment funds of the College are used for student scholarships and awards, building and grounds maintenance, and other various program support.”
“The College is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. However, income from certain activities not directly related to the College's exempt purpose is subject to taxation as unrelated business income. No provision for income taxes has been made in the accompanying financial statements. The College accounts for the effect of any uncertain tax positions based on a more likely than not threshold to the recognition of the tax positions being sustained based on the technical merits of the position under examination by the applicable taxing authority. If a tax position or positions are deemed to result in uncertainties of those positions, the unrecognized tax benefit is estimated based on a cumulative probability assessment that aggregates the estimated tax liability for all uncertain tax positions. Tax positions for the College include, but are not limited to, the tax exempt status and determination of whether income is subject to unrelated business income tax; however, the College has determined that such tax positions do not result in an uncertainty requiring recognition.”
