“Oklahoma museums association (oma) is the primary provider of professional training and technical information to staff and volunteers of oklahoma's 500 plus museum's, historical societies, historic sites, zoos and botanical gardens, historic houses, living history museum's, tribal cultural centers and other museum related institutions. Oma supports museums by: 1) developing resources to fulfill the mission; 2) building networks among members and member institutions as well as with various publics; 3) encouraging public awareness of the existence, purposes and value of museums, 4) promoting professional growth among museum employees and volunteers; 5) providing professional services to oklahoma museums and 6) advocating on behalf of museums. Below are additional services oma offers -a variety of workshops, seminars, and an annual conference -a quarterly newsletter called musenews. -maintains a website at www.okmuseums.org -provides office referrals and consultations -runs a museum reference lending library containing more than 350 books. -offers professional interest networks, hosts an annual awards program, and posts job opportunities. -assists with scholarships and resume reviews -hosts an online museum directory -hosts member events, including mx networking events, and an annual conference. -provides a mentor program, discount programs, grant proposal reviews, a disaster response team, advocacy, and serves as a liaison to professional associations, addressing issues of concern to the oklahoma museum community.”
