Activity 2

Model schools: in 2012-14, kids smart is engaged in an intensive project to implement all of its program components in three participating schools - arise academy, behrman elementary, and langston hughes academy - bringing them to model arts integrated status and building their capacity to sustain those gains into the future. The model schools initiative will implement arts integrated instruction across the entire curriculum in each school - in every class at four grade levels in academic years 2012 - 2015. In addtion to enhanced teaching artist residencies and increased participation in and frequency of current professional development programming, a corps of teacher/leaders will be trained in each school to sustain the schools' arts integration capacity past 2015.

Activity 3

Leadership: kid smart leads the imagination, creativity and innovation (ici) arts education reform initiative in the louisiana division of the arts. Ici provides artist residencies and arts integration professional development in eight schools across the state and provides training for artists who are interested in working in classroom settings. Kid smart builds competency in the field-at-large through presentation at national conferences sponsored by entities such as the john f. Kenndy center for the performing arts, the national guild of community arts education, and the american alliance of theater educators. Kid smart coordinated and participated in studio habits of mind training in new york city with national colleagues. Kid smart partnered with the new orleans parent's guide to create an index of arts education opportunities in all new orleans public schools.
