“Stevens county car care began its journey of providing affordable spay/neuter for the cats of low income families in 2007. Offering low- cost, and often free spay/netuers for cats of those who cannot afford our services, the group of roughly 35 volunteer, 3 vet techs and anywhere from 4-7 veterinarians gather together one sunday a month in a local community center to "fix' as many as 214 cats in one long day. Asking the public to pay what the surgeries actually cost us, (approximatley 35.00 per cat), we depend totally on public support for our funding. We also loan out live traps to catch "community cats" (ferals) wheich are altered, vaccinated and ear tipped for any donation offered. Our mom/kitten special is our most popular money saver for the low-income public with the mother cat spayed for free and her entire litter if kittens altered for half price, providing the mother and her whole litter are brought in together at the same time. Only the licensed professionals are paid, all other support staff are volunteers, and costs are cut in every area to pull off these clinics. Because our costs are minimal and we streech every dollar unitl it squeaks, our little group of cat enthusiasts will alter its 20,000 cat in the fall of 2023 in stevens county, one of the poorest counties in washington state.”
