“In 2021 stevens county cat care began its work again after the mandated restrictions on public gatherings from covid 19. Only one clinic was held during this year but plans are in place to start our one-sunday-a-month clinics again with the new year. Because there is no animal control in our county and an excess of cats is of little concern to many residents, our clinics offer an affordable alternative to the ever-growing cat population. Thanks to a generous bequeathment, (which is beginning to run low), no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. We offer free spay/neuter/vaccination/ear tipping services to feral cats provided the trappers return them to their original location, (as in tnr, trap/neuter/ return.) companion cats belonging to lower income residents are provided low-cost spay/neuter services in a large community center in a fast paced, high-quality, high-volume event by the same veterinarians who offer their services to the group one sunday a month for a fraction of what they must charge in their own clinics. We are also able to offer a mom/kitten special, altering the mother cat for free and her entire litter of kittens for half price. Only licensed professionals such as the veterinarians and the vet techs are paid. A well-trained team of roughly 35 volunteers spend the day assisting with check-in/out, monitoring and moving cats about the room to the different stations, and cleaning surgical instruments. A potluck and mutual interest in the welfare of local cats creates a comfortable comradery within our team which has spay/neutered over 18,000 cats since its first public clinic in 2007”
