To improve endangered species monitoring to protect endangered species, focusing on non-invasive, cost-effective and community-friendly methods, ultimately towards mitigating human wildlife conflict and stopping the illegal trafficking of products from endangered species.

| Professional Wildlife Monitoring. This is WildTrack's professional scientific work to monitor species in the wild. In 2020 WildTrack worked with 25 active scientific field projects in 19 countries and 5 continents to deliver non-invasive species monitoring. As awareness of the importance of local community participation in conservation grows, so has demand for WildTrack's footprint identification technqiue because it draws on local traditional ecological knowledge. Despite the global pandemic, WildTrack was able to collaborate with field partners to continue fieldwork to protect endangered species and won an award for use of drones for black rhino monitoring. Fourteen species Footprint Identification Technology (FIT) algorithms are now in use, with five more in development. WildTrack had 15 university partnerships globally and supported 20 professional scientists over 35 active field projects to use FIT in JMP software from SAS during 2020. | $46,962 | $342 |
| Conservation FIT - training citizen scientists to be able to contribute to WildTrack's data collection, and engaging ex-situ communities (zoos and sanctuaries)to help build WildTrack's data reference libraries for algorithm development. Fourteen zoos submitted images to Conservation FIT and 3 added photos using Epicollect at the beginning of 2020 before the pandemic shutdown. 7 zoos came in as new participants for 2020 and will submit photos when staff time allows. Thirteen American zoos and 2 International zoos agreed to send in footprint photos starting in 2021. An additional 11 zoos expressed interest and have been contacted. | IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt | 0 | Current Year Facts and Circumstances: Wildtracks work to obtain research data in support of conservation of wildlife species contributes to preserving the biodiversity of Earth, and mitigates the illegal trafficking of products from endangered species. We. like many other small non-profit organizations, were greatly challenged by the Covid-19 pandemic. This made fundraising particularly challenging. In addition, it prevented travel for fieldwork, and reduced the capability of many of our partner projects to achieve their core conservation work. We had to adjust our focus to concentrate on research and development. However, we believe that this focus will prove productive in helping us increase our public contributions.We are a young organization, we began operations in 2013. We are aware of the need to diversify our funding sources, and, despite Covid-19, made the following efforts in 2020 to attract a broader funding base:1. We held an international workshop in Feb 2020 that allowed us to distribute our technology across 20 professional conservation projects over 5 continents. This led to the formation of the WildTrack Specialist Group which has now planned and undertaken a successful fundraising effort (to be reported for 2021)2. We developed, with UC Berkeley in California, an AI-powered footprint analytics pipeline that will allow citizen scientists to contribute to data for conservation. This project won the UC Berkeley Hal R. Varian Award 2020, and will allow us to develop fundraising strategies with platform users moving forward. 3. To further boost our citizen science outreach, we developed new interactive media to train data-collectors, including an interactive video and field guides. These are available on our website (www.wildtrack.org).4. Our work was shared widely through our corporate partners senseFly when we won the AUVSI award for humanitarian use of drones. That award led to broad media coverage and interest in our work that again we hope will provide public funding opportunities moving forward. In one media article we were listed as 50 social media innovations that might save the world. 5. We onboarded several new projects that further broaden our public awareness and reach, including gharial monitoring in Nepal, otter monitoring in Lebanon and lion and leopard monitoring in Botswana. 6. A documentary about our work, made by TerraX in Germany, reached 5 million viewers in Europe.7. We established a new FIT conservation community in WildLabs Net, which started with two members and grew to30 by the end of 2020. This group consists of wildlife technologists across a wide range of professions and again helps contribute to increasing our public profile.Our board of directors welcomed one new member invited specifically to help us with marketing and communications Ms Maggie Sergio. Our efforts in this difficult year were rewarded by success in applying for public grants through the US-Forest Service and the US Army Research Office. We have already secured another tranche from each of these organizations for 2021.We are in the process of developing an educational package for children to learn how to be citizen scientists, in collaboration with colleagues at LearnItDigitally.com and have interest from Harvard University that we hope to develop later this year. Fundraising was particularly difficult in 2020, but we hope that our efforts to increase WildTracks outreach to the general public will continue to gradually increase our progress towards satisfying the public contribution requirement.
