The primary exempt purpose of the center for landbased learning is to inspire and motivate people of all ages, especially youth, to promote a healthy interplay between agriculture, nature, and society through their actions and as leaders in their communities.

Clark pacific is the organization's current landlord. The 25-year lease agreement provides a discounted rent. The fmv of the rent less amounts paid are treated as in-kind donations by the organization. As part of the agreement, clark pacific is allowed one member of their staff to sit on the board of directors.

THE PROGRAM PROVIDES ACCESS TO SHARED INFRASTRUCTURE, EQUIPMENT, AND MENTORSHIP. INCUBATOR SITES ARE LOCATED IN WOODLAND, WEST SACRAMENTO AND DAVIS. PLOTS OF LAND RANGING FROM ONE-QUARTER TO ONE ACRE, AS WELL AS GREENHOUSE, WASH AND PACK, AND COOLER SPACE, CAN BE LEASED ON AN ANNUAL BASIS FOR UP TO FOUR YEARS, AND3) THE CALIFORNIA FARM ACADEMY APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM IS FOR HIGHLY MOTIVATED AND COMMITTED INDIVIDUALS WHO KNOW THEY WANT TO PURSUE A CAREER IN AGRICULTURE. AS THE ONLY ACCREDITED APPRENTICESHIP IN AGRICULTURE IN CALIFORNIA THUS FAR, THE ORGANIZATION HAS RECOGNITION FROM THE STATE DIVISION OF APPRENTICESHIP STANDARDS AS A PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM LASTS APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS, AND INCLUDES BOTH A PAID ON-THE-JOB TRAINING COMPONENT, AS WELL AS COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS. UPON COMPLETION, THE APPRENTICE WILL GRADUATE TO A JOURNEYMAN LEVEL IN THE OCCUPATION OF A BEGINNING FARM AND RANCH MANAGER.THIS YEAR THE TRAINING PROGRAM TOOK A HIATUS (PARTLY DUE TO THE PANDEMIC). INSTEAD WE RAN A SHORTENED VERSION (6 WEEKS) IN THE SPRING OF 2021. WE ESTABLISHED THE INCUBATOR PROGRAM AT THE MAPLES FARM AND HIRED A FULL-TIME MANAGER TO COORDINATE AND RUN THE PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM LEASED LAND TO FOUR BEGINNING FARMERS. WE HIRED AN APPRENTICE. THE URBAN FARMS IN WEST SACRAMENTO WITH THE FUNDING FROM USDA NRCS MADE STRONG CONNECTIONS WITH THE WEST SACRAMENT COMMUNITIES. WITH THE AID OF THE MOBILE FARMERS MARKET TRUCK, WE HELPED OUR FARMERS SELL PRODUCE TO LOW- INCOME COMMUNITIES USING EBT/SNAP BENEFITS. THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM ENGAGED WITH MENTOR FARMERS ACROSS THE STATE AND PLACED APPRENTICES ON SELECTED MENTOR FARMS. THE PROGRAM ALSO HIRED A COORDINATOR IN ADDITION TO THE ALREADY EXISTING OUTREACH COORDINATOR. THE PROGRAM IS GROWING RAPIDLY AND IS POISED TO GO STATEWIDE.

STUDENTS GET HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE PLANTING NATIVE SPECIES, BUILDING AND INSTALLING BIRD BOXES, AND INSTALLING IRRIGATION SYSTEMS. THE SLEWS PROGRAM WORKS TO ENGAGE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN HABITAT RESTORATION THROUGH A SERIES OF HANDS-ON FIELD DAYS AT REAL PROJECTS THAT DEVELOP SCIENCE SKILLS AND ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP IN YOUTH. HOWEVER THE PROGRAM WAS AFFECTED BY THE PANDEMIC, AND AS A RESULT NO CLASS SESSIONS WERE HELD. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE NO YOUTH FIELD DAYS BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC AND ALL FIELD DAYS WITH YOUTH HAD TO BE CANCELLED. WE DID CONDUCT ADULT VOLUNTEER DAYS AND AS A RESULT WE WERE ABLE TO HOLD ADULT FIELD DAYS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR MOST EXPENSES GENERATED PERTAINED TO PERSONNEL COSTS THROUGH PAYROLL. FARMING, AGRICULTURE, AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT FOR SUSTAINABILITY (FARMS) LEADERSHIP - EACH YEAR OVER 300 HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH IN 27 CALIFORNIA COUNTIES ARE EXPOSED TO POSTSECONDARY AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN AGRICULTURE, FOOD AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES, HELPING THEM MAKE CRITICAL DECISIONS ABOUT THE NEXT STEPS IN THEIR LIVES. OUR FARMS PROGRAM OPERATES IN 27 SEPARATE GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS WITHIN CA. CFW EMPOWERS STUDENTS TO IMAGINE AND DEVELOP SOLUTIONS TO ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES AND TURN THEIRIDEAS INTO ACTION.
