Mission

The specific purpose of this corporation is to facilitate watershed conservation within the american basin and surrounding areas, located in the counties of placer, sutter and sacramento.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Coordination and Planning - Continued to develop Valley Foothills Watershed Collaborative (VFWC) a regional partnership to share expertise from nonprofit, government, and private organizations to help implement priority projects for watershed health. The program manager met with potential partners throughout the year to discuss projects and funding sources in the Sacramento Area. Projects descriptions were developed for 11 projects to be included in the American River Basin Stormwater Resource Plan and the American River Basin Integrated Regional Water Resource Plan. Staff attended both the SWRP and IRWMP planning processes. The effort to establish VFWC as an independent nonprofit corporation began. Participated as a core member of the collaborative group that came together to develop and implement the Morrison Creek Revitalization Project that aimed to transform a mile of this Southeast Sacramento waterway from a fenced stormwater channel into a neighborhood asset with native riparian vegetation, paths for bicycles and pedestrians, and connections to nearby schools and parks, while keeping its flood protection capacity. Activity included planning, grant writing, stakeholder coordination, and community outreach.Developed funding proposals for restoration projects on Arcade Creek in Del Paso Regional Park.Developed funding proposals for projects related to homeless impacts on Steelhead Creek.Continued to hold quarterly meetings of American River Basin Collaborative, the successor organization to American Basin Council of Watersheds (ABCW) that serves the expanded area of Valley Foothill Watersheds Collaborative as a consensus-based stakeholder group.Organized the annual End of Year dinner meeting with presentations showing activities by organizations throughout the year.$128,321-
Monitoring -Set up and managed interns at a field station on Secret Ravine on the Sierra College Campus. Parameters include discharge, turbidity and other basic parameters. Installed an instream logger and trained interns to use the logger and Dry Creek Conservancy meters.Organized the fall Dry Creek Watershed salmon spawning survey and coordinated with surveys on several other watersheds.Field tested a phone application to be used by volunteers to monitor trash.Continued to photo document erosion, stream flows, fuel load reduction, presence of red Sesbania, and vegetation development on planting projects.$69-
Education and Outreach -Presented spawning data to the environmental committee of Granite Bay Flycasters.Working with the UCD Extension California Naturalist program DCC developed an eight week program designed to instruct community members about basic aspects of watershed ecology.Our videographer continued to produce informative pieces that are posted to YouTube. The pieces have over 4,000 hits and Placer County Library has four copies they distribute.Provided booths for public events such as Earth Day, Maidu Interpretive Center Yomen festival, and the Lincoln Salmon Festival.Made Facebook postings to document events and projects.$15-
