Mission

The specific purpose of this corporation is to facilitate watershed conservation within the american basin and surrounding areas, located in the counties of placer, sutter and sacramento.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Coordination and Planning - Developed a major grant proposal with Placer County for restoration of Cottonwood Dam on Miners Ravine. This proposal to the California Department of Water Resources Urban Streams Restoration Program (USRP) will be the basis for future grant proposals. Also explored grants with City of Roseville and Placer County Flood Control District for the USRP and partnered with Placer Resource Conservation District on a USRP proposal.Partnered with Cal State University Sacramento Office of Water Programs on a grant to do storm water retrofitting on campus that included funding for the fall 2015 Low Impact Development Conference.Recruited and coordinated a diverse set of partners to express our interests in the reorganization of NOAA agents.Continued to work with California Urban Streams Partnership to express our interests in the administration of Prop 1 funding.Continued to work with partners to find a solution to improving fish passage over Hemphill Dam.Continued to track Proposition 1 to discover partnering opportunities for individual programs by various agencies.Continued to coordinate American Basin Council of Watersheds meetings. Continued to develop Valley Foothills Watershed Collaborative (VFWC), a proposed organization to promote collaboration among nonprofits, local government, and business in the Sacramento Area; develop a process to access fines from enforcement actions taken by the state and regional Water boards in the Sacramento area; promote Adopt-a-Creek in the Sacramento area; promote methods of fuel load reduction by local government; etc.Coordinated a VFWC advisory group that met monthly. Developed a brochure and used it for marketing in meeting s with local nonprofits and government. Wrote a proposal to US Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART Cooperative Watershed Management Program a $98,000 proposal to establish a new watershed group in the greater Sacramento metropolitan region that will form a collaborative of local organizations to share technical expertise and resources among a diverse set of stakeholders and partners in support of improved watershed management. Hired a proposal writer who was funded by member donations. DCC continued participation in and provided comments for the Hwy 65/I80 interchange stakeholder committee and the Roseville Greenway stakeholder committee as well as the Sacramento County Hydro modification Management Plan.$2,596-
Monitoring - Provided water quality monitoring under the 401 permit of the restoration contractor hired by City of Roseville to rebuild a portion of a stream bank to protect the regional wastewater line.The fall salmon spawning survey was carried out using volunteers on several days. Continued to photo document fuel load reduction projects in Placer County.$2,453-
Restoration - Partnered with City of Roseville, Trout Unlimited, and Granite Bay Flycasters to develop an updated assessment of restoration opportunities for Secret Ravine.Volunteer planting days were held over several weeks in the spring and the fall at five sites in five communities. Planting events were funded by community donations and by grants managed by DCC. Worked with Trout Unlimited volunteers and City of Roseville staff to develop a grant for bank stabilization on Secret Ravine. Contracted with an Adopt-a-Creek coordinator and met with local government staff to develop the program. Worked with Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency, Placer Resource Conservation District, and Sacramento Area Creeks Council to continue Red Sesbania eradication.$2,088-
Education and Outreach - Our videographer continued to produce informative pieces that are posted to YouTube. The pieces have over 4,000 hits and Placer County Library has four copies they distribute.Fuels management workshop, website, and demonstration site. Workshop presentations are at http://www.drycreekconservancy.org/index-6.html#wildfire. About 30 attended from local and other agencies. The agenda included peer presentations by managers of projects in Placer County, Cities of Roseville and Rocklin, and Sacramento County.Provided booths for Spring Earth Day events and the Maidu Interpretive Center Yomen festival, and Lincoln Salmon Festival.
