Mission

The specific purpose of this corporation is to facilitate watershed conservation within the american basin and surrounding areas, located in the counties of placer, sutter and sacramento.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Restoration - Volunteer planting days were held over several weeks in the spring and the fall at six sites in five communities. Planting events were funded by community donations and by grants managed by DCC. Worked with Trout Unlimited volunteers and City of Roseville staff to develop a grant for bank stabilization on Secret Ravine. Contracted with an Adopt-a-Creek coordinator and met with local government staff to develop the program. Worked with Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency, Placer Resource Conservation District, and Sacramento Area Creeks Council to continue Red Sesbania eradication.$2,448-
Education and Outreach - Creek Week/Fall Festival publicity for projects explains the value of restoration and natural systems. Interpretive activities such as nature walks and watershed tours were held. Provided booths for Spring Earth Day events and the Maidu Interpretive Center Yomen festival, and Lincoln Salmon Festival. Developed several videos of local creeks and natural history of the watersheds. Made Heald College class presentations. Made Facebook postings to document events and projects. Worked with CSUS Office of Water Programs to develop grant funding for Low Impact Development (LID) conference. Coordinated fuel load workshop for local agencies and developed fuel load reduction guidelines which are posted on DCC website.$2,262-
Monitoring - The fall salmon spawning survey was carried out using volunteers on several days. Fuel load reduction projects in Placer County were photo documented.--
Coordination and Planning - American Basin Council of Watersheds agendas focused on discussion of Valley Foothills Watershed Collaborative (VFWC), a proposed organization to promote collaboration among nonprofits, local government, and business in the Sacramento Area; developing a process to access fines from enforcement actions taken by the state and regional Waterboards in the Sacramento area; promotion of Adopt-a-Creek in the Sacramento area; methods of fuel load reduction by local government; Low Impact Development conference planning; and developing funding projects to the Urban Streams Restoration Program. DCC continued participation in the Hwy 65/I80 interchange stakeholder committee and the Roseville Greenway stakeholder committee as well as the Sacramento County Hydromodification Management Plan. DCC continued engagement in Cottonwood Dam improvement process and continued support of the Hemphill Dam Collaborative Workgroup to support improving fish passage at Hemphill Dam. DCC participated in Placer County stormwater advisory committee, the Placer Regional Stormwater Coordination Group, supported regional red Sesbania eradication efforts.DCC coordinated VFWC planning meetings and organization development including development of mission, promotional materials, and a grant application. DCC signed a contract with City of Roseville to represent them at American River Basin Integrated Regional Water Management Plan, and began involvement in a regional MS4 permit proposed by Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board.--
