The board of directors is composed of members of the distribution committee of the schenectady foundation.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

As part of the annual audit, our independent certified public accounting firm prepares form 990 and related supporting schedules from our internal records. We designate an individual(s) with suitable skill, knowledge, or experience to oversee these services and we make all management decisions and perform all management functions. A copy of the form 990 is provided to the audit committee of the organization for review, revision, and signature. The final form 990 is sent to all board members for review and comment before being filed with the irs. We have reviewed, approved, and accepted responsibility for form 990 and the related schedules and believe they are adequately supported by the books and records of the schenectady foundation, inc.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The organization regularly and consistently monitors and enforces compliance with the conflict of interest policy.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XI, LINE 2C:

There has been no change in the process for reviewing audited financial statements or the selection of an independent auditor.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The schenectady foundation and its affiliate are not-for-profit entities and are exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The foundation and affiliate have been classified by the internal revenue service as entities that are not private foundations and qualify for the charitable contribution deduction. The organization is not subject to income taxes on income received for exempt purposes. No provision for income taxes has been made in the consolidated financial statements. The organization follows statutory requirements for income tax accounting and avoids risks with tax positions that may be challenged upon examination. Management believes the liability from taxing authority examination, if any, would not have a material effect on the organization's consolidated financial statements.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:THE WEEKEND BACKPACK FUND WAS CREATED TO SUPPORT AND EXPAND A FOOD INITIATIVE THROUGHOUT THE SCHENECTADY CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDED FOOD FOR WEEKEND MEALS TO THOSE WHO WERE NOT LIKELY TO HAVE SUSTAINABLE FOOD AT HOME. THE FUND CONTINUED TO COLLECT CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS CORPORATE GRANTS, AND MADE PAYMENTS TO THE REGIONAL FOOD BANK BASED ON THEIR REPORTING OF FOOD PURCHASES. THIS INITIATIVE CONTINUED SERVING STUDENTS IN THE SCHENECTADY CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT AND CHILDREN IN OTHER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS, INCLUDING DUANESBURG, MOHONASEN, SCHALMONT, AND SCOTIA-GLENVILLE. 976 STUDENTS WERE SERVED IN THE SCHENECTADY CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT AND 174 STUDENTS ATTENDING OTHER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS WERE SERVED IN 2018.THE CALL TO ACTION FOR YOUTH WAS LAUNCHED IN LATE 2015 AS A COMMUNITY-WIDE EFFORT TO IMPROVE YOUTH EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT, AND COMMUNITY OUTCOMES. THE THREE GOALS OF THIS PROGRAM ARE (1) DRAMATICALLY INCREASE THE NUMBER OF TRAINED MENTORS AND ADULT ALLIES ENGAGED WITH UNDER-RESOURCED YOUTH; (2) INCREASE THE NUMBER OF YOUTHS EMPLOYED, OR GAINING EXPERIENCE THROUGH JOB SHADOWING AND INTERNSHIPS; AND (3) PROVIDE SUBSTANTIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTHS IN LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT TRAINING, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, AND VOLUNTEERISM. THE SCHENECTADY COUNTY YOUTH SUMMIT II WAS HELD IN 2018. IT PROVIDED A FORUM FOR STUDENTS TO SHARE THEIR IDEAS ON WAYS TO IMPROVE THEIR COMMUNITY THROUGH BOTH A LARGE GROUP FACILIATION (WORLD CAFE FORUM) AND IN SMALL GROUPS (STUDENTS BUILT PROTOTYPES OF A VISIBLE WAY TO DEFINE THEIR IDEA). KEY ISSUES EVOLVED, ESPECIALLY "SAFE SPACES". ADULTS IN ATTENDANCE BROUGHT THIS INFORMATION BACK TO THEIR ORGANIZATIONS FOR IMPLEMENTATION. APPROXIMATELY 85 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED; 93 ADULTS ATTENDED, OF WHICH 21 WERE VOLUNTEERS AND FACILITATORS.THE THRIVING NEIGHBORHOOD CHALLENGE WAS INSTITUTED IN 2018. A NEW FOCUS EMERGED THIS YEAR FOR NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION AND WE SEARCHED FOR FUNDING SUPPORT. GRANT FUNDING WAS SECURED FROM OTHER FOUNDATIONS AND DONORS, AS WELL AS CDBG FUNDS FROM THE CITY OF SCHENECTADY. CITY RESIDENTS WERE ASKED FOR PROJECT IDEAS THAT THEY WANTED TO IMPLEMENT WITHIN THEIR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD. THE PLANS WERE DRAWN UP, COMMUNITY MEETINGS INFORMED RESIDENTS OF OPPORTUNITIES, AND A COUNCIL OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS WAS SELECTED TO REVIEW APPLICATIONS AND VIEW PROJECT PRESENTATIONS. SCHENECTADY NON-PROFITS PROVIDED SUPPORT TO THE INTIATIVE BY SERVING AS FISCAL AGENTS, AS WELL AS SOURCES OF TECHNICAL AND PERSONNEL SUPPORT TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS. WITH A BUDGET OF $250,000, THE CHALLENGE COUNCIL AWARDED GRANTS TO 12 PROJECTS. THE YEAR ENDED WITH HAVING THE PROJECTS SELECTED AND ARRANGING FOR A JANUARY EVENT WHERE THEY WOULD BE ANNOUNCED TO THE PUBLIC AND FUNDS WILL BE GRANTED IN 2019.
