Activity 2

The community center building houses a Fitness Center where a variety of exercise classes are offered, including classes targeted toward older island residents. In addition, exercise equipment is available on a membership basis. Fees are set to cover costs of equipment, and reduced fees/extended payment plans are available for community members needing assistance. Also within the fitness center is a space available for rent by private specialists coming from the mainland to offer physical therapy, counseling, and other services to residents. The availability of health and fitness activities promotes the physical and emotional life of the island residents, particularly during the challenging winter months, providing further support for the year-round community. During 2012 there were approximately 300 scheduled health and fitness offerings, with 1,351 people attending.

Activity 3

The Zone is the organization's youth program, housed in its own section of the building. The Zone offers air hockey, ping pong, foosball, a pool table, board games, a collection of children's books and a comfortable space to just relax. Dances, sports, movies, summer day camps and other special programs are also offered to the island youth under the auspices of the Zone to help the island retain and attract young year-round families who represent the strength and future of the island community. During 2012, 541 people attended a total of approximately 70 Zone sponsored youth events and offerings.
