To provide training, education, and technical support in the forensic sciences in order to assist members of the criminal justice community achieve the highest level of quality services for the justice system.

- Training and support: see schedule oinstructional design and delivery:nfstc delivered almost 80,000 hours of training to more than 1,000 criminal justice, law enforcement and military professionals. In addition, nfstc helped transition certification testing for the association of firearms and toolmark examiners (afte) from a written to an online exam.intermediate crime scene investigation training:in partnership with ron smith and associates, the instructional services (is) unit delivered more than 8,500 training hours to 439 learners representing 161 agencies from 47 states. (nij award #2010-dn-bx-k266) medicolegal death investigation training:more than 8,600 hours of training were provided to 560 forensic pathology fellows and medicolegal death investigators representing 349 agencies from 45 states. This training qualifies for continuing education credits from the american board of medicolegal death investigators. (nij award #2011-dn-bx-k568)latent print examiner training programs:thirty entry-level latent print examiners successfully completed training, gaining the skills and knowledge to prepare for the latent print certification exam administered by the international association for identification. Cumulatively, more than 16,950 pattern evidence training hours were delivered. (nij awards #2010-dn-bx-k265 and 2011-dn-bx-k571)sensitive site exploitation (sse):a total of 45,800 training hours were delivered to 119 trainees from four different military branches. Participants received specialized training covering topics including improvised explosive device (ied) component recognition, home-made explosives (hme) awareness, trace evidence collection and biologics. This essential training is key for developing actionable intelligence for in-theatre operations. In addition, nfstc delivered 10 specialized investigative techniques classes for internet crimes against children task force members around the country, in partnership with the high tech crime institute. A product from the australia new zealand policing advisory agency national institute of forensic science, after the fact, was transformed from cd-based to a web-based platform. This skills assessment tool is a comprehensive training and assessment tool for crime scene investigators which address mulitple criteria for crime scene investigation. Consulting:dna and forensics project management; program and laboratory evaluations; needs assessments; efficiency studies; market research and product development.in a year when law enforcement agencies experienced intense budget pressures, nfstc provided assistance across the nation to help address challenging service issues. Agencies assisted included:- indiana state department of toxicology- vermont department of forensic science- puerto rico police department homicide unit- colorado springs police department forensic laboratory- philadelphia police department forensic science bureau- oakland county sheriffs office- broward county sheriffs office- arkansas state crime laboratorymilitary/dod/rotc:nfstc is dedicated to providing our soldiers with the best forensic science support possible. From testing, evaluating and integrating field equipment to providing training and reachback support, our team is committed to those who defend us. In 2012, nfstc hosted the 4th biometrics and forensics internship, allowing 12 cadets from across the country to get education and hands-on experience in cutting edge skills new officers will need for forensic intelligence gathering.military and special operations support included:-exploitation training-equipment procurement-integration services-reachback support

- Nfstc's goal is for all stakeholders to receive and provide the highest level of forensic science services. Nfstc partners with a host of organizations to leverage the combined expertise of our nation's foremost subject matter experts. Nfstc has forged close working relationships with many such organizations. As a way to accomplish this nfstc has subleased space in their facilities to organizations that can assist in this leverage.
