To accomplish this goal in 2017, we made 637 home visits with families to discuss habits and disease prevention. Additionally, 2,645 people were tested for intestinal parasites and kidney disease. We partnered with rural families to build 28 Clean Air Kitchens that feature a smokeless stove and significantly improve respiratory health.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0EDUCATION: Our goal is that 100% of children ages 5 - 17 attend school in the 18 communities we serve. To accomplish this goal in 2017, we served 216,000 meals that served as an incentive for student attendance. We sponsored secondary and university education for 135 students through 22 partnerships with local high schools and national universities. We built 2 new schools in 2 rural communities, and built 6 new classrooms onto a previous school. Over 500 students attended an afterschool program focused on literacy and reading comprehension.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0MISSIONS: In 2017, we were joined by 1,630 short-term missionaries. Our mission trips are designed to create cross-cultural experiences that spark transformational growth for participants and the Nicaraguan families they serve.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0PROJECT SUPPORT: We own, operate and maintain a missions complex in Nicaragua to house visiting mission trip participants. We have close to 2,000 visitors every year. This complex also holds our Nicaraguan headquarters, which includes office space, warehouses, and a fleet of vehicles--all of which are necessary to support our daily operations.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc1WATER & SANITATION: In the communities we serve, our goal is that clean water is available 24/7, and that a septic system exists for waste (modern bathroom) in every home. In 2017, 110,247,217 gallons of clean water flowed to 1,193 families. 113 bathrooms were constructed and 109 more homes were connected to a clean water system.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc2ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Our work in rural communities is focused on helping families find ways to earn at least $15 a day. In 2017, 140 chickens and pigs were lent to families in the form of capital to start a small business. 50 families benefitted from a micro loan with a 98.9 percent return rate.
