Mission

Chris kids' mission is to heal children, strengthen families and build community. See supplemental statement for expanded description of mission.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Chris counseling center: the chris counseling center provided mental health and substance abuse counseling to children, youth, adults and their families through in clinic and in community services. Therapists with specialized training in trauma utilize evidenced based practices to help clients face, recover and heal from past sexual abuse, physical abuse and/or other traumatic events and develop the skills needed for resiliency and recovery. During 2012, 19,478 therapy sessions were provided by the chris counseling center to 1,132 individuals. 93% of consumers indicated satisfaction with counseling services and 100% of families reported improvement in family functioning and reduction in caregiver strain.
Activity 3
Transitionz programs: in 2012, three transitionz programs provided an individualized array of counseling, case management, life skills, job coaching and support services to 113 youth, ages 16 - 24, that these young adults need to achieve self- sufficiency. 1)transitionz at summit trail apartments provided supportive housing and transitionz services for 70 young people with a mental health diagnosis, ages 17-24, who were aging out of foster care or who were homeless, including parents with 13 children.84% of young people were working and/or in school and 83% maintained employment for six months or longer. (see schedule o) 2)in partnership with the georgia department of behavioral health and developmental disabilities, the chris clubhouse opened in 2012 providing young adults living in the community, ages 16-21 with a behavioral health diagnosis, a safe place to gather while learning the skills necessary to transition into adulthood. 75% of all activities were youth directed and 100% of youth had no new legal involvement. 3)using the evidenced supported transition to independence process (tip) model, healthy transitionz was implemented in late 2012 and provided individualized counseling and case management to youth, ages 16-22, with a behavioral health diagnosis and living in the community at large.
