Mission

The mission of the center for the visually impaired is to empower people impacted by vision loss to live with independence and dignity.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Clearanswer is a contact center enterprise started in 2011 to provide employment for people with vision loss to fund cvi's mission. Clearanswer provides outsourced contact center services (phone, chat, email, text) staffed by highly trained, dedicated associates who specialize in customer satisfaction and use the latest technology to offer superior services to area businesses and government agencies. During the year ended june 30, 2012, cvi held 3 customer service training classes attended by 22 visually-impaired clients, graduated a total of 19 participants, and placed more than 100,000 phone calls in support of cvi clients and services.
Activity 3
The begin early childhood program provides essential services to enhance development and potential for newborn and preschool-aged children with severe visual impairments. Begin helps parents learn about their children's visual conditions and become advocates to seek the best opportunities for them. Begin's year-round programming includes individual vision rehabilitation, classes, parent support groups and counseling, and family activities.the program offers service to over 100 families yearly. During the year ending in june 30, 2012, 342 individuals received services from 83 registered families participated in begin program on a regular basis-nearly 400 individual visits were conducted with begin children and their families-80 visually impaired infants/toddlers/pre-schoolers and their families received an individualized functional vision assessment-37 children regularly attended preschool transition classes-100 percent of pre-k children are moving on to kindergarten/first grade-94 percent of parents/caregivers demonstrated increased engagement and leadership skills as evidenced by class and activity participation and knowledge of child's needs-91 percent of begin children demonstrated measurable growth as evidenced by pre- and post-test scores on the oregon project for preschool children who are blind or visually impaired skills inventory-percentage of divorces in fy2012 among begin parents was 2.5 percent, versus a national average of 70 percent-ipads and appropriate apps were introduced to transition classes-parent conference schedule was increased to monthly from quarterly- added weekly "report card" on transition class children
