OCDC HAS UPGRADED ITS WEB SITE FOR IMPROVED TECHNICAL FUNCTIONALITY AS WELL AS MORE UP TO DATE CONTENT. OCDC ALSO SERVES AS THE COORDINATING ENTITY FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH WORK THAT IS PERFORMED ON BEHALF OF THE ORGANIZATION'S MEMBERS. ONE SUCH PROJECT HAS BEEN EXPLORING THE LEGAL AND REGULATORY ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR COOPERATIVE FORMATION AND OPERATION. OCDC ORGANIZES ITS MEMBERS, CONDUCTS WORKSHOPS AND MEETINGS AND ENGAGES COOPERATIVE LAW AND REGULATORY SPECIALISTS TO CONDUCT RESEARCH IN THIS AREA AND TO PUBLISH MATERIAL THAT WILL BE OF USE TO OCDC MEMBERS AND OTHER DONORS AND DEVELOPMENT PRACTITIONERS. THE WORK FOCUSES ON EVALUATION AND ASSESSING THE STATE OF THE LEGAL ENVIRONMENT, IDENTIFYING THE PRIORITIES FOR LEGAL OR REGULATORY REFORM, AND INITIATING AND CONDUCTING THE ADVOCACY EFFORTS TO MAKE THE REFORM OCCUR. OCDC ALSO MAINTAINED A WEB SITE FOR THIS INITIATIVE AND HAS POSTED MATERIALS AND INFORMATION THERE FOR DISSEMINATION TO A WIDER AUDIENCE OF COOPERATIVE DEVELOPMENT PRACTITIONERS, DONORS AND ACADEMICS. THIS WEB SITE IS: WWW.CLARITY.COOP ANOTHER COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH EFFORT FOCUSED ON DETERMINING HOW TO IDENTIFY A SET OF OBJECTIVES QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE INDICATORS OF LONG-TERM COOPERATIVE BUSINESS VIABILITY WITHIN A DEVELOPING ECONOMY SETTING. IMPACT WAS GREATLY EXPANDED IN 2012 BY COLLECTING DATA ON COOPERATIVES AND DEVELOPING A SURVEY TOOL TO BE USED IN THE RESEARCH. 2012 WAS THE UNITED NATIONAL INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF COOPERATIVES. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR OCDC SPONSORED THREE EVENTS THAT PROMOTE THE INTERESTS OF ITS MEMBERS IN MANY PUBLIC FORUMS FOCUSED ON INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT METHODOLOGY, POLICY AND PRACTICE. ONE OF OCDC'S MAJOR EVENTS OF 2012 WAS THE COOPERATIVE ISSUES FORUM HELD ON MAY 2, 2012 AT THE NATIONAL PRESS CLUB. THE THEME WAS THE 2012 INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF COOPERATIVES. THIS SUCCESSFUL SEMINAR WAS WELL ATTENDED, FEATURED US AND FOREIGN PRESENTERS AND SPEAKERS AND DREW CONSIDERABLE ATTENTION IN THE DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY. IN 2012, OCDC CONTINUES TO SERVE ITS MEMBERS BY PERFORMING A LIAISON FUNCTION WITH DONOR AGENCIES, ALLIED ORGANIZATIONS, THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND WITH US GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS. OCDC WORKS TO MAKE SURE THAT COOPERATIVES ARE INCLUDED IN DECISIONS WHEN DESIGNING AND IMPLEMENTING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS AND WHEN FUNDING OR STRATEGIC DECISIONS ON DEVELOPMENT POLICY ARE MADE BY POLICYMAKERS.

THE WORK FOCUSES ON EVALUATION AND ASSESSING THE STATE OF THE LEGAL ENVIRONMENT, IDENTIFYING THE PRIORITIES FOR LEGAL OR REGULATORY REFORM, AND INITIATING AND CONDUCTING THE ADVOCACY EFFORTS TO MAKE THE REFORM OCCUR. OCDC ALSO MAINTAINED A WEB SITE FOR THIS INITIATIVE AND HAS POSTED MATERIALS AND INFORMATION THERE FOR DISSEMINATION TO A WIDER AUDIENCE OF COOPERATIVE DEVELOPMENT PRACTITIONERS, DONORS AND ACADEMICS. THIS WEB SITE IS: WWW.CLARITY.COOP ANOTHER COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH EFFORT FOCUSED ON DETERMINING HOW TO IDENTIFY A SET OF OBJECTIVES QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE INDICATORS OF LONG-TERM COOPERATIVE BUSINESS VIABILITY WITHIN A DEVELOPING ECONOMY SETTING. IMPACT WAS GREATLY EXPANDED IN 2012 BY COLLECTING DATA ON COOPERATIVES AND DEVELOPING A SURVEY TOOL TO BE USED IN THE RESEARCH. 2012 WAS THE UNITED NATIONAL INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF COOPERATIVES. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR OCDC SPONSORED THREE EVENTS THAT PROMOTE THE INTERESTS OF ITS MEMBERS IN MANY PUBLIC FORUMS FOCUSED ON INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT METHODOLOGY, POLICY AND PRACTICE. ONE OF OCDC'S MAJOR EVENTS OF 2012 WAS THE COOPERATIVE ISSUES FORUM HELD ON MAY 2, 2012 AT THE NATIONAL PRESS CLUB. THE THEME WAS THE 2012 INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF COOPERATIVES. THIS SUCCESSFUL SEMINAR WAS WELL ATTENDED, FEATURED US AND FOREIGN PRESENTERS AND SPEAKERS AND DREW CONSIDERABLE ATTENTION IN THE DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY. IN 2012, OCDC CONTINUES TO SERVE ITS MEMBERS BY PERFORMING A LIAISON FUNCTION WITH DONOR AGENCIES, ALLIED ORGANIZATIONS, THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND WITH US GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS. OCDC WORKS TO MAKE SURE THAT COOPERATIVES ARE INCLUDED IN DECISIONS WHEN DESIGNING AND IMPLEMENTING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS AND WHEN FUNDING OR STRATEGIC DECISIONS ON DEVELOPMENT POLICY ARE MADE BY POLICYMAKERS.
