Activity 2

South carolina healthcare information and referral network (schirn): this program is a statewide online and toll-free call center that directs any south carolinian without private health insurance to appropriate and affordable medical providers and services in their communities. Schirn provides low-income, uninsured state residents access to free and otherwise reduced priced pharmaceuticals. It also makes available contact information on hundreds of community prevention and education programs, health support groups, and church and community outreach efforts. In addition, schirn provides online resources of information on medicaid and medicare part d eligibility, as well as 475 free and discounted prescription drug programs for which south carolina residents may be eligible.

Activity 3

Families helping families charleston (fhf): this program continues to be one of the largest programs to assist needy families during the holiday season at the end of the year. In december, more than 3,000 south carolina families were assisted with gifts, food, clothing, and other seasonal needs by more than 3,000 donors, sponsor organizations and individuals across the state. Fhf provides a systematic approach to reaching as many of the neediest families in south carolina as possible. By coordinating with local agencies and charity programs we can insure that donations and charitable giving are targeted to those who need help the most. Every dollar donated to fhf generates nearly $9 in goods and services for palmetto state families in need. Over the past 22 years, more than 39,000 south carolina families have been helped at christmas.
