Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

General explanation attachment

Form 990,part111,line 4a-program service accomplishmentwe witnessed another incredible year in 2018. As in the previous year, we did not hold any major fundraising events except for the global bistro and the walkathon, in which both events were very well attended. We were able to build momentum through monthly events and an effective online campaign during ramadan. We continued providing services in 11 countries, and crossed the mark to now support 1000+ orphans. Our income grew, as did our donor and volunteer base. Our staff remains small but productive: chief executive officer (full time), operation lead (part time) and web developer (part time). These three roles are critical in managing givelights growth, operations, multiple projects/events, bookkeeping, and website management. 2018 accomplishments by country:we currently have 35 children in our aceh home. Givelights focus is to foster learning and growing academically, emotionally, and spiritually, but also to instill a feeling of love, security and a sense of belonging for all our orphans. We nurture the childrens passions and talents through encouragement and participation. The children have immense talents in many different fields, including music, the arts, math, sports, oral narratives. Many have participated and won awards in school and city-wide competitions, in diverse areas including math olympics, storytelling and sports. Their competitive spirit motivates the other children in the home as well. We continue to develop our english educational program. Since 2017, we have had many dependable tutors who teach the children english via skype and zoom. One more of our oldest girls, nika started a new chapter in her life, she recently married and she shared this joyous occasion with all her younger siblings (the children at the orphanage). It was more like a family reunion with all the children coming together and celebrating the wedding. Nika now lives in her own home with her husband, and she stays in touch with the home she was raised in (the orphanage). We always emphasize, encourage and inspire the importance of education in securing a bright future. Our children are motivated to learn and make something great out of their lives because they have seen first hand what success truly means. Not only are we there with them ever step of the way, but since our older kids have graduated from college, the younger witness how far they can go as long as they have the ambition and willingness to work hard. We are blessed that none of our children have had to stop education due to a lack of fund. Most importantly, they all know that they have the resources they need to go far in life from examples set by our older children. 2. Pakistana. We received a donated land near lahore, pakistan in october 2018. The land is 40,000 square feet and in a nice, safe neighborhood with well-developed infrastructure. We have also formed a management team consisting of pro bono experts to help us work with the local government. Our goal is to break ground in 2020.b. We are continuing our project in partnership with the citizen foundation (tcf) to provide scholarships to 200 orphans. Tcf is the largest educational non-profit in pakistan, running close to 1500 schools, providing quality education to 220,000 students (50% of which are girls) in the most underprivileged areas of the country. In 2018, we provided full scholarships to 200 orphans attending tcf primary and secondary schools. Our goal is to grow the number of students we are supporting to 500 within the next few years. 3. Bangladesha. Our home with 50 girls is a happy space just like all our other homes. Eleven of our girls have gone to the capital, dhaka, to take a national test to pass 5th grade; seven received a+s and five received as. We continue to nurture their dreams of becoming doctors, teachers, lawyers, and even a pilot. It has been amazing to see the transformation of these girls from having a sense of confusion and degrad

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0AN INFORMED MEMBER OF THE BOARD MADE APPROPRIATE INQUIRIES AND PERFORMED ADEQUATE INSPECTION AS RELATING TO THE PREPARATION OF THE EXEMPT ORGANIZATIONS RETURN CONTENTS AND POSITIONS TAKEN.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1COMPLIANCE WAS ASSURED BY DISCLOSURE AND REVIEW.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2THE BOARD REVIEWS THE COMPENSATION OF THE PRESIDENT ON AN ANNUAL BASIS. CURRENTLY THE COMPENSATION IS MUCH BELOW THE COMPARABLE DATA FROM SIMILAR ORGANIZATIONS.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3ALL OFFICER PERFORMS THEIR SERVICES VOLUNTARILY EXCEPT THE PRESIDENT AS MENTIONED ABOVE.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4THE BOARD IS ALSO CONSIDERING OTHER AVENUES, INCLUDING MAKING SUCH DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE ON WEBSITE OF THE GIVELIGHT FOUNDATION.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt5FORM 990,PART111,LINE 4A-PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTWE WITNESSED ANOTHER INCREDIBLE YEAR IN 2018.
