Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

Each year, after careful review of financial statements, a team of senior executives, come together to file the form 990, submits it for review to the board treasurer and president to sign off before submitting it to the IRS.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The Ixtatan Foundation has a conflict of interest policy that requires board members and key employees to disclose any potential conflicts of interest at the beginning of the year or during quarterly board meetings. This practice helped ensure transparency and ethical conduct within the organization.

Form 990, Part X, Line 1

To reflect the changes in our filing system for the current tax year, specifically related to Part X, Line I. We have observed a shift from $142,851 to $54,511. The reason for this change is a deliberate separation in accounting for both branches of our organization. Previously, assets from the Guatemala office were accounted for as assets of the US branch. However, in the current filing, we have restructured our accounting practices, and these assets are now considered separately and reported on schedule F to accurately reflect activities outside the US.

ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0Over the course of the last year, our organization underwent a significant transition in our filing process. We transitioned from the traditional method of physically filing Forms 990 to adopting an electronic filing system. This transition required comprehensive training for our team members involved in the filing process, as well as a thorough review of our previous years' filings to ensure a seamless transition. Moreover, our organization operates in two branches, responding to both Guatemalan and U.S. fiscal requirements. To enhance the accuracy of our filings and comply with the regulations of both jurisdictions, we undertook the meticulous task of separating our financial records. While these adjustments were necessary for the long-term efficiency and accuracy of our financial reporting, they did contribute to a delay in the filing process. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
