Uncertain tax positions under fin 48 (asc 740-10) the organization evaluates uncertainty in income tax positions based on a more-likely-than not recognition standard. If that threshold is met, the tax position is then measured at the largest amount that is greater than 50% likely of being realized upon ultimate settlement. As of december 31, 2017 and 2016, there is no accrual for uncertain tax positions. If applicable, the organization records interest and penalties as a component of income tax expense. In december 2011, the irs initiated an audit of the organization for the years ended december 31, 2008 to 2010, including review of its tax-exempt status. There has been no substantive communication from the irs about the audit since november 16, 2016 and no communication at all since january 18, 2017.
