Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 6

Membership in USTA MAS consists of USTA member clubs and organizations and individuals in good standing within the USTA MAS boundaries as provided under the USTA Bylaws.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11B

A copy of the Form 990 is first reviewed by the Chief Executive Officer. Upon the CEO's approval, it is reviewed by the Treasurer and the President and then forwarded to the full Board of Directors for review prior to submission.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12C

Each director and officer is required to review a copy of the conflict of interest policy, which requires each person to disclose any relationships, positions or circumstances in which he or she believes could contribute to a conflict. Following full disclosure of a possible conflict of interest, the Board of Directors shall determine whether an actual conflict of interest exists and, if so, the Board shall vote to authorize or reject the transaction or take any other action deemed necessary to address the conflict and protect the Section's best interests.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 1, Description of Organization Mission:

USTA Mid-Atlantic promotes tennis and its physical, social, and emotional health benefits. We envision a community where tennis is accessible and available for all people to play. We operate tennis leagues, tournaments, and other programs and events for more than 28,000 adult and youth members and we support a strong tennis ecosystem for the millions of people that play the sport in the region. We support community tennis providers, facilities, teachers and coaches that directly deliver the sport by offering them program knowledge, curriculum, equipment, technical support and grant funding so that more people can gain access to tennis and the lifelong benefits of the game. Our vision is tennis in every community because through tennis we create healthier, happier and more connected communities.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4A, Tennis Programs & Service Initiatives:

USTA League Program & Adult Social Program: Nearly 20,000 people play USTA Mid-Atlantic Adult League Tennis each year. These leagues are offered for a wide range of ages and ability levels in a fun, social and competitive environment. Many of the leagues advance to Regional, Sectional and in some cases National Championships. USTA MAS also offers recreational and social tennis opportunities for adults that provide a platform for networking, socializing, learning (or getting a refresher on) the game, physical activity and fun. Both programs support the creation of a special community of tennis players and enthusiasts of all ages, abilities and backgrounds that are united through a shared passion for tennis. The programs foster social connections and physical activity while fulfilling social and emotional needs that infuse vibrancy in people for a lifetime. Youth Programs: USTA Mid-Atlantic aims to introduce tennis to all children and youth in the region in a way that aids healthy growth and development, and provides avenues to physical activity, educational achievement, character building, social-emotional wellbeing and a strong foundation for lifelong play. In the Mid-Atlantic Section, we provide physical education teachers turnkey tennis lesson plans and equipment for their school through the USTA's Net Generation suite of tools and resources, thus reaching all children with tennis in an easy to access way and removing barriers to play. USTA Junior Team Tennis (JTT) is a fun, recreational tennis league for ages 8 to 18 and all skill levels - beginners to tournament level juniors. The USTA Junior Circuit helps all ages and experience levels gain match play experience in a tournament setting with a focus on individual results. This experience develops skills through level-based play and demonstration of good sportsmanship. Tournaments: USTA Mid-Atlantic works to ensure there is local tennis competition for youth and adults of all abilities. There's local competition at all levels: entry-level, intermediate and advanced. As players advance, there is an opportunity to compete at national-level tournaments. USTA Tournaments are offered in a variety of formats, including individual, team, entry-level, non-elimination and elimination. A wide variety helps players gain experience and compete at a level they are comfortable. Community Tennis and Diversity & Inclusion: USTA Mid-Atlantic strives to grow tennis at every level with a goal of making the game accessible and inclusive to everyone. We support a wide range of tennis programs designed to introduce tennis to all people and help them learn and play the game. USTA MAS directly supports this through relationship building with our network of National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) chapters, Community Tennis Associations, Parks & Recreation departments and other community-based tennis opportunities and events. We provide technical support, guidance, curriculum, resources and more to community providers to support their efforts to engage people in every and all communities with tennis and grow the sport. Outreach Programs of Impact: USTA Mid-Atlantic supports both the player and tennis provider ecosystem to create opportunities for all people to grow physically, mentally and socially through tennis. Our Safe Place to Play grant program helps fund tennis court refurbishment and construction projects especially for public courts and those in under resourced communities so that more people can have access to safe, well-maintained courts to play and learn the sport. Our junior player scholarships help increase access to youth programs and their character-building benefits for those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play tennis because of financial constraints. Additional programs of impact are continually being identified and created to ensure that we are able to reach new and diverse audiences.
