Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Pathways provides free, trusted resources so that every parent is fully empowered to support their child's development, and take advantage of their child's neuroplasticity at the earliest age.

Since 1985, pathways has used outcome-based research and multimedia as tools to promote each child's fullest inclusion. We strive to empower health professionals and parents with knowledge of the benefit of early detection and early intervention for children's sensory, motor, and communication development.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Sec A, Line 2, Family/business relationships amongst interested persons

Shirley welsh ryan, robert j.w. Ryan & patrick g. Ryan - family relationship

Form 990, Part VI, Sec B, Line 11B, Review of form 990 by governing body

The organization's management works with its independent third party tax preparers to complete the form 990. Upon its completion, the organization's management performs a detailed preliminary review of the prepared form 990. Subsequent to the preliminary review, all voting members of the governing body receive a copy of the form 990 for questions and comments prior to filing with the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Sec B, Line 12C, Conflict of interest policy

The organization's conflict of interest policy covers all directors, trustees, officers, and key employees (interested persons). The organization's management determines whether conflicts of interest exist for transactions involving employees, while the organization's board of directors determines whether conflicts of interest exist for transactions involving directors. If it is determined that a conflict of interest exists, then the appropriate party would be excused from deliberating, deciding or voting on a matter in which a conflict exists. Interested persons are required to disclose conflicts of interest through a formal conflict of interest questionnaire on an annual basis.

Form 990, Part VI, Sec B, Line 15A, Process to establish compensation of top management official

The organization's compensation committee utilizes comparability data for similarly qualified persons in comparable positions and organizations in their industry to determine the compensation package of the organization's director of operations, sarah kerndt. The final determination of the directors' compensation arrangements are subject to the organization's independent compensation committee's review and approval. The determinations regarding directors' compensation are documented on a timely basis. The process for determining compensation for the director of operations was last undertaken in 2013.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 15B, Process Used to Establish Compensation for Other Officers

The organization does not compensate any other officers, directors, trustees or key employees, therefore this question has been intentionally marked "no" on the return.

Form 990, Part VI, Sec C, Line 19, Required documents available to the public

Financial statements, governing documents, and conflict of interest policies are not required disclosures pursuant to internal revenue code (irc) section 6104. These documents are not available to the public at this time.

Form 990, Part VII, Section A, Line 1A, Column (A), Deborah R. Jannotta

Mrs. Deborah r. Jannotta was a director of pathways foundation until her passing on may 2014.

FORM 990, PART III, LINE 1, ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

By providing educational resources on these topics all children have the ability to achieve optimal motor, sensory and communication development leading to improved functional independence, social and emotional well-being, and integration into the community. Using the expertise of a medical roundtable comprised of leading physicians, clinicians, nurse practitioners and lay advisors, our chicago location develops and disseminates written and video materials to parents and health professionals, participates in professional and medical conferences, and develops continuing education programs for medical professionals. To promote full inclusion, we created an initiative called inclusion in worship, which raises awareness about barriers to participation that exist in many faith communities. The program assists congregations of all denominations to welcome persons of all abilities into all aspects of faith life. Pathways foundation has a clinical arm located in glenview, il. This facility is an outpatient therapy clinic providing assessment and intervention for children with conditions which impact gross motor, fine motor, sensory, feeding/swallowing, and/or communication development. Our glenview location provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy services to qualified families at an adjusted fee based on financial need. Our clinic seeks out and incorporates evidence based therapies and state of the art technologies to enhance functional outcomes for the children in its care. In its quest for best practices, our glenview location provides ongoing education and mentoring to its staff as well as offering leading edge continuing education programming to professionals in the community. In keeping with evidence based practice, our clinic conducts research to validate its interventions, often partnering with local hospitals and universities. Our clinic has established its own institutional research board comprised of physicians, researchers, and parents in the community to ensure the safety of its subjects and the integrity of its research protocols.

LAST YEAR, WE OFFERED A COURSE ON MYOFASCIAL RELEASE TECHNIQUES FOR CHILDREN WITH NEUROMOTOR DISABILITIES THAT WAS ATTENDED BY 23 THERAPISTS INCLUDING STAFF. PATHWAYS.ORG ALSO HOSTED 4 FIVE DAY COURSES LEADING TO SENSORY INTEGRATION CERTIFICATION WITH 48-60 CLINICIANS PARTICIPATING IN EACH MODULE INCLUDING 4 STAFF THERAPISTS. ADDITIONALLY, THROUGHOUT THE FISCAL YEAR, PATHWAYS CENTER SUPPORTED 2 STAFF THERAPISTS TO PARTICIPATE IN AN INTENSIVE TRAINING PROGRAM LEADING TOWARDS CERTIFICATION IN NEURO-DEVELOPMENTAL TREATMENT OF INDIVIDUALS WITH CEREBRAL PALSY OR OTHER NEUROMOTOR DISORDERS. THESE COURSES PRESENTED THE LATEST IN INTERVENTION TECHNIQUES AND RESEARCH FINDINGS FOR THE PEDIATRIC POPULATION. FISCAL YEAR 2014 PROVED TO BE A YEAR OF GROWTH, ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND BROAD COMMUNITY OUTREACH TO PROMOTE EARLY DETECTION OF DEVELOPMENTAL DIFFERENCES AND TO EMPOWER PARENTS TO SEEK PROFESSIONAL SERVICES TO HELP THEIR CHILDREN ACHIEVE THEIR POTENTIAL.
