DescriptionGrantsExpenses
1- Rise Up and Green the Bronx Free Summer Camp - Our 9th successful environmental camp in the South Bronx, producing a camper and staff written play, "The Decision" about climate change and how to draw from nature's wise animals - performed in two locations. Made possible with the collaboration of Native American historian and elder Evan Pritchard's teachings in camp 2013, Kate Temple-West's background in theater direction and playwriting, Aresh Javadi's community arts making and Leroy Huston's community building. Campers chose their animals, wrote their lines, created the story together with the staff, and made masks of their animals, creating a powerful piece of theater that speaks of the earth's survival.$16,000$16,000
2- Children's Magical Garden (CMG) - After a successful end of the encampment in June, MG! supported Children's Magical's 2nd free environmental arts summer camp for children on the L.E.S.! The new summer camp was founded by the garden's president and mentor Kate Temple-West alongside two garden youth leaders, Feng Chen & Amina Begum. Youth leader Feng Chen had been inspired to bring this camp to CMG having served as camp counselor at More Gardens! Summer Camp in the Bronx and Catskills the year before. More Gardens! brought in guest permaculture designers, tree climbers, and grassroots community fundraising which contributed to the wild success of this camp.$9,000$9,000
3- Art Collaborations & Earth-based Arts. Aresh Javadi, along with help from other local artists George Hirose and Darren Borkel, are working on an egg-shaped chicken coop to be completed by the spring. The work of local artists such as Crystal Clarity's collaboration with More Gardens! was highlighted in the creative aspects of puppetry, parades, and banners to help support the preservation of several other endangered community gardens, such as Siempre Verde at community board meetings and rallies.$1,000$1,500
6- More Gardens! & Honk NYC Community Garden Parade- this collaboration brought out the best of pageantry and international marching bands to the Lower East Side. Our theme was community, art, preservation and self-governance of community gardens for all.$900$900
7- Permaculture Action Day -We collaborated with Permaculture Action Tour's Ryan Rising on the final day of the musical tour of The Polish Ambassador followed by permaculture and banner making morning at Hogg's Head Ranch community garden in Queens, leading many people in the second half of the day to Coney Island with presentation by and unveiling of a most magical collaborative banner and a 311 call to action for our new mayor to bring back Boardwalk community garden.$900$900
5 - Chaharshanbeh Suri, the Persian kick-off to the Spring Equinox, brought hundreds of Iranians, their friends and family, joined by community gardeners from the far reaches of the globe, to a community garden on NYC's Lower East Side for this fire festival. A fiery revolution in the spirit of Emma Goldman, the element of fire was once again a part of the commons as music and song propelled participants to dance and leap over the flames.$500$500
8- Climate Action Day - The largest environmental justice march in the US. Aresh Javadi collaborated with artists at May Day Art Space and in the Lower East Side - big thanks to artists Michelle Krivo, Eddy Menuo and Marta Flores for their collaboration to create a massive parachute banner leading the food justice section of the Climate Justice March in NYC.$500$500
4- Esperanza Community Garden's 15th-year Anniversary gathering at 6th street Community Center. As reported in the New York Times, Esperanza community gardeners and More Gardens! members old and new recalled the spiritual feeling of this encampment that enabled the preservation of so many community gardens citywide.$130$130

More Gardens! brought in guest permaculture designers, tree climbers, and grassroots community fundraising which contributed to the wild success of this camp.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2_________________ Description of program service accomplishments____________ ____________1- Rise Up and Green the Bronx Free Summer Camp - Our 9th successful environmental camp in the South Bronx, producing a camper and staff written play, "The Decision" about climate change and how to draw from nature's wise animals - performed in two locations. Made possible with the collaboration of Native American historian and elder Evan Pritchard's teachings in camp 2013, Kate Temple-West's background in theater direction and playwriting, Aresh Javadi's community arts making and Leroy Huston's community building. Campers chose their animals, wrote their lines, created the story together with the staff, and made masks of their animals, creating a powerful piece of theater that speaks of the earth's survival. _____________ ___________ 2- Children's Magical Garden (CMG) - After a successful end of the encampment in June, MG! supported Children's Magical's 2nd free environmental arts summer camp for children on the L.E.S.! As reported in the New York Times, Esperanza community gardeners and More Gardens! members old and new recalled the spiritual feeling of this encampment that enabled the preservation of so many community gardens citywide. _____________ ____________ 5 - Chaharshanbeh Suri, the Persian kick-off to the Spring Equinox, brought hundreds of Iranians, their friends and family, joined by community gardeners from the far reaches of the globe, to a community garden on NYC's Lower East Side for this fire festival. A fiery revolution in the spirit of Emma Goldman, the element of fire was once again a part of the commons as music and song propelled participants to dance and leap over the flames. __________ _____________ 6- More Gardens! & Honk NYC Community Garden Parade- this collaboration brought out the best of pageantry and international marching bands to the Lower East Side. Our theme was community, art, preservation and self-governance of community gardens for all. _______________ _______________ 7- Permaculture Action Day -We collaborated with Permaculture Action Tour's Ryan Rising on the final day of the musical tour of The Polish Ambassador followed by permaculture and banner making morning at Hogg's Head Ranch community garden in Queens, leading many people in the second half of the day to Coney Island with presentation by and unveiling of a most magical collaborative banner and a 311 call to action for our new mayor to bring back Boardwalk community garden. _________________ ____________ 8- Climate Action Day - The largest environmental justice march in the US.
