In our nature education programs, children are mentored by young educators and experienced gardeners and teachers. The children are immersed in permaculture, urban farming, strategies for youth activism, collaborative arts in nature, and herbal medicine to grow their unique creativity within group dynamics. We also go on trips to other community gardens and urban farms where the children can learn from wise urban farmers citywide. The inclusion of cooperative-style teaching deepens playful peer-to-peer learning. Parents and dedicated community garden members contribute to this camp's essential success and joy, strengthening the local community._____ Grant- $5,000 Exp- $3,860 C-............................................................................................................................................................................................... ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0More Gardens Fund (Tax Year 2024). To Whom It May Concern, My name is Aresh Javadi, and I am the Director of More Gardens Fund, a small nonprofit dedicated to community wellness and environmental justice through education and green space creation in New York City. Earlier this year, I faced a serious medical emergency that completely changed the rhythm of my life. I was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at NYU Langone due to a severe combination of flu viruses and extremely low oxygen levels. I was unable to walk, breathe properly, or even think clearly-let alone manage my responsibilities. This came without warning. I am someone who is normally very hands-on in my work, especially in a grassroots organization like ours, where much of the responsibility falls directly on my shoulders. But during that time, I was physically and mentally unable to function. My physician, Dr. John Wang, can confirm the nature and extent of my hospitalization, as well as the fact that I was unable to perform administrative or executive tasks. Recovery was not immediate. Over the next three to four months, I struggled to regain my strength. Simple tasks took immense effort. I experienced fatigue, brain fog, and had to prioritize healing before I could return to my duties. During this time, our small team had to focus all available energy on delivering urgent programming in our Lower East Side and South Bronx partner communities, many of whom rely on our services for environmental education, healing, and access to green spaces. As soon as I was able, I resumed my responsibilities and took steps to complete and submit this filing. We are now back on track and committed to full compliance. More Gardens Fund has served NYC's communities for over 25 years, and we have never willfully failed in our responsibilities. I respectfully ask that the late penalty be waived due to these extraordinary and verifiable medical circumstances. Supporting documentation is available upon request. Thank you for your understanding and compassion. Gratefully yours, Aresh Javadi
