“The form 990 was prepared by the firm's auditors and reviewed by the vp of finance and administration before being sent to the executive director and vp of external affairs. If there were comments or questions, they were discussed with the firm's auditors. After the 990 was reviewed, it was sent to the chair of the audit committee for review and approval. Once the 990 was approved by the chair of the audit committee, the 990 form was sent to the full board for final review before it was filed with the irs.”

“All board members and staff are required to complete and submit a signed and dated conflict of interest policy annually, indicating that they have read and comply with the policy. A checklist is maintained and monitored. Follow up email requests and/or telephone calls are made until all outstanding policies are received. If a conflict of interest occurs, the board member involved recuses him/herself from voting on the matter in question.”

“The executive committee of the afterschool alliance board reviews the executive director's performance and the vice chair takes the lead on making a recommendation to the rest of the executive committee. This recommendation of the executive director's compensation and/or bonus is then approved to reflect performance accomplishments plus a cola (cost of living adjustment). The board also used comparable organization's 990s from guidestar as guidelines for comparable data. The last compensation review was completed in january 2015 and the decision was documented in the employee's file. All staff are subject to an annual salary review and revision that is approved by the executive director and subject to board revision. Afterschool alliance policy states that any raise equal to an increase of 10% or more of an employee's current salary must be approved, in advance, by the board. In 2014 a 1.5% cola was given to all staff.”

“In october 2014, the afterschool alliance began the "fiscal sponsorship" program, in which it entered into an agreement with the national girls collaborative (ngc), in order to support the newly formed nonprofit organization, during its establishment period. Ngc is committed to informing and encouraging girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.”
