Activity 2

Conferences and events: range from all-day symposia and lectures to garden tours and full weekends of free tours. A sampling of events in 2012 included: whats out there weekend: a series of free guided tours of 25 sites in both washington, dc and new york city; every tree tells a story signboard and photo exhibitions; symposium: bridging the nature-culture divide ii; and, garden excursions in aspen, co and phoenix, az; and new program garden dialogues a small group tour that explores how landscape architects and their clients work together.

Activity 3

Pioneers of american landscape design: this initiative chronicles the lives and careers of those who have designed our gardens, parks, streets, campuses, cemeteries, suburbs, and the innumerable other environments in which we live. This dynamic initiative utilizes multiple formats-including biographical and project profiles, oral histories, videotaped interviews, tours, and print publications-to educate, inspire, and promote the active sharing of information. The goal is to provide much needed information on the visionaries, both well-known and understudied, who have had a significant impact on the designed american landscape. Its interactive research query is designed to encourage the active and ongoing participation of educators, practitioners, and stewards of our shared landscape heritage.
