Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The 990 is reviewed by the president & ceo and the treasurer and signed by the president & ceo once the tax returns are completed. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The board reviews the form 990 of other non-profit organizations whose chief management officers have a similar scope of responsibilities and qualifications to use as a benchmark for assessing whether the compensation likely to be paid to the president & ceo under the contract is reasonable. There are no other officers or key employees of the organization.

Form 990, Part IX, Line 11G

Consultant: program service expenses 492,487. Management and general expenses 7,662. Fundraising expenses 42,200. Total expenses 542,349.

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

The process has not changed from the prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and applicable state law. Income generated by activities that would be considered unrelated to the organization's mission would be subject to tax, which, if incurred, would be recognized as a current expense. No such tax has been recognized for the years ended june 30, 2023 and 2022. U.s. Gaap requires management to evaluate tax positions taken by the organization and recognize a tax liability if the organization has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities. Management evaluated the organization's tax positions and concluded that the organization had taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustment to the financial statements to comply with the provisions of this guidance. The organization did not record any interest or penalties on uncertain tax positions in the accompanying statements of financial position as of june 30, 2023 and 2022, or in the accompanying statements of activities for the years then ended. If the organization were to incur any income tax liability in the future, interest on any income tax liability would be reported as interest expense and penalties on any income tax liability would be reported as income taxes.

PART XI, LINE 2D - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

Special events expense 31,425.

PART XII, LINE 2D - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

Special events expense 31,425.

IRS990/Desc0THE HISPA ROLE MODEL PROGRAM: ENABLES HISPANIC PROFESSIONALS TO STEP (OR, IN VIRTUAL APPLICATIONS, STREAM) INTO PREDOMINANTLY LOW-INCOME, PUBLIC MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSROOMS IN WHICH HISPANICS ARE THE MAJORITY TO SERVE AS POSITIVE ROLE MODELS FOR OUR YOUTH. DURING EACH VISIT (6 HOURS OF VISITS PER SCHOOL PROGRAM, PER SCHOOL YEAR), DIFFERENT HISPA ROLE MODELS SHARE THE EXPERIENCES THAT ALLOWED THEM TO ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS AND SHOW STUDENTS THAT THEY CAN DO THE SAME. VISITS ARE TAILORED TO SCHOOL AND STUDENT NEEDS, RANGING FROM SMALL GROUP DISCUSSIONS TO LARGE AUDITORIUM PRESENTATIONS, BUT ALL EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND INTRODUCE POTENTIAL FUTURE CAREERS. THE HISPA ROLE MODEL PROGRAM HAS REACHED OVER 23,000 STUDENTS TO DATE. IN ADDITION TO BRINGING HISPA ROLE MODELS TO STUDENTS' CLASSROOMS, HISPA ALSO BRINGS STUDENTS TO HISPA ROLE MODELS' WORKPLACES FOR IMAGINE DAY - CORPORATE VISITS. THESE VISITS COMPLEMENT THE ROLE MODEL PROGRAM BY ALLOWING STUDENTS TO EXPLORE HISPA ROLE MODELS' CAREERS. THIS YEAR, THE HISPA ROLE MODEL PROGRAM SESSIONS WERE PRIMARILY CONDUCTED IN PERSON, WITH SOME VIRTUAL LIVE VISITS. PROGRAM EXECUTION: IN 2022-23, 283 HISPA ROLE MODELS EXECUTED 520 ROLE MODEL PROGRAM VISITS, REACHING 4,097 STUDENTS IN 84 PROGRAMS IN 34 SCHOOLS. IN ADDITION, HISPA HELD 17 IMAGINE DAY - CORPORATE VISITS WITH 12 COMPANIES AND UNIVERSITIES, WITH 160 HISPA ROLE MODELS HOSTING 1,004 STUDENTS FROM 15 SCHOOLS ENROLLED IN THE HISPA ROLE MODEL PROGRAM. HISPA YOUTH CONFERENCES: THEMED "TAKE ACTION! ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS," HISPA YOUTH CONFERENCES BRING APPROXIMATELY 150 STUDENTS TO A UNIVERSITY CAMPUS FOR A FULL DAY OF HANDS-ON STEM WORKSHOPS ALONGSIDE POSITIVE, INSPIRATIONAL ROLE MODELS. YOUTH CONFERENCES EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF HIGH SCHOOL TO FUTURE SUCCESS, EXCITE STUDENTS ABOUT COLLEGE LIFE, AND ENCOURAGE STUDENTS' EXPLORATION OF STEM STUDIES AND CAREERS. THIS YEAR, HISPA HOSTED ITS FIRST CONFERENCE SINCE THE PANDEMIC, BRINGING 140 STUDENTS AND 60 ROLE MODELS TO PRINCETON UNIVERSITY. ON-DEMAND HISPA ROLE MODEL PROGRAM PROGRAMMING: HISPA CONTINUED TO DEVELOP THE 'HISPA 20,000 INSPIRATIONAL STORIES FOR OUR YOUTH' WEB-BASED PLATFORM. THIS WEB-BASED PLATFORM COLLECTS HISPANIC ROLE MODELS' STORIES AS WRITING, AUDIO RECORDING, AND VIDEO AND SHARES THEM IN ONE PLACE, ALL IN A WAY THAT IS IMMEDIATELY ACCESSIBLE BY STUDENTS, THEIR PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND COUNSELORS. HISPA HAS CONTINUED TO DEVELOP ACCOMPANYING LESSON PLAN PACKAGES FOCUSED ON SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) SKILLS IN HISPA ROLE MODELS' STORIES. THE ON-DEMAND PACKAGE INCLUDED AN INDEX OF THE HISPA ROLE MODELS VIDEOS; THEIR BIOGRAPHIES IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH; AND THE ASSOCIATED SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) LESSON PLAN CARDS, PROVIDING A LESSON PLAN FOR GUIDED LISTENING AND Q&A. TO DATE, 195 HISPA ROLE MODELS HAVE PUBLISHED THEIR INSPIRATIONAL STORIES, AND 73 SEL LESSON PLAN CARDS HAVE BEEN CREATED. HISPA DELIVERED 3 ON-DEMAND HISPA ROLE MODEL PROGRAMS IN 2022-23.MY CAREER: STEP-BY-STEP: LATINO STUDENTS OFTEN FACE UNIQUE CHALLENGES, INCLUDING LESS EXPOSURE AND ACCESS TO COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS INFORMATION. HISPA WANTS THESE STUDENTS TO KNOW ABOUT THE HUNDREDS OF CAREER OPTIONS AVAILABLE. VOLUNTEERS FILL OUT A ONE-PAGE "MY CAREER: STEP-BY-STEP" TEMPLATE. USING THIS TEMPLATE, VOLUNTEERS INTRODUCE THEIR CAREERS AND INCLUDE THE SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES AND MILESTONES IN THEIR LIVES THAT ALLOWED THEM TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR FIELDS. TO DATE, 461 VOLUNTEERS HAVE FILLED OUT THIS TEMPLATE.HISPA ROLE MODEL ENGAGEMENT AND TRAINING: IN 2022-23, HISPA TRAINED 400 VOLUNTEERS FROM THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS THROUGH ORIENTATION AND TRAINING SESSIONS.
