Mission

Keep prince william beautiful is a non-profit, environmental organization that serves prince william county through partnering with residents, businesses, and government to educate and inspire people to be environmental stewards and keep prince william beautiful.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
BEAUTIFICATION:KPWB promotes opportunities for green, beautiful spaces for people to enjoy. Beautification projects have included reflection gardens for wounded warriors and seniors, bee pollinator gardens, and tree plantings. Activities for volunteers include painting, planting, sanding, weeding, mulching, and collecting debris. Projects help maintain an attractive and safe community for Prince William County residents.$111,130-
COMMUNITY CLEANUP PROGRAM:Volunteers assist with litter pickups throughout Prince William County. Volunteers may suggest a location and/or sign up for one of KPWBs many hosted cleanups. Communities, neighborhoods, and organizations participate in this program. The Great Prince William Cleanup, a Keep America Beautiful initiative that aligns with The Great American Cleanup, had over 100 volunteers participating. The total amount of trash collected from all cleanups was over 17,000 pounds.$11,982-
EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH:Keep Prince William Beautiful Educational Outreach program was presented at senior centers, several civic groups, and festivals throughout the county. Information covered the topics of water quality, recycling, and litter. The presentations are a great way to share important information and promote deeper conversations on each topic. Behavior change is promoted to help residents think about ways they can reduce their environmental impact in their county. There were a total of 2,028 people reached through the educational outreach programs.$4,575-
STORM DRAINS:The Chesapeake Bay Protection & Awareness Program is conducted in partnership with Prince William County Department of Public Works Environmental Services. Volunteers identify storm drains in their neighborhoods or at shopping centers and receive instruction on labeling the storm drains. When the labels are places, the volunteers hand out educational information to the neighboring home to promote the protection of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed by keeping litter and other objects out of the storm drains.$2,268-
LITTER SURVEY:Quarterly Litter Surveys are conducted each year. Volunteers receive training on how to assess the levels of litter during their journey through the county. A rating scale of 1 to 4 is used based on the Community Appearance Index from Keep America Beautiful. The data collected from the litter survey is shared with Keep America Beautiful and the Prince William County Neighborhood Services department. This helps identify areas in need of attention for Community Cleanups or Adopt-A-Spots.$1,820-
SHOPPING CENTER PROGRAM:The Shopping Center Program is an important way to assess neighborhood shopping centers. The aesthetics and safety of over 80 shopping centers in Prince William County was rated on a scale of 1 to 5. Community members use the survey form provided by Keep Prince William Beautiful to evaluate the cleanliness and safety of each center. These volunteers provide valuable information on local shopping centers.$796-
RECYCLING EDUCATION:KPWB provides recycling education to all ages to educate about the importance of recycling, reducing, and reusing to reduce the amount of litter in the environment and landfills.$614-
ADOPT-A-SPOT PROGRAM:The Adopt-A-Spot program supports spots all over Prince William County. Participants contact Keep Prince William Beautiful with areas they identify as needing help with litter control. The area is cleaned nine times per year and reports are made detailing how much litter was collected and how many people volunteered. Over 14,000 pounds of litter and recycling were collected by the dedicated Adopt-A-Spot volunteers last year.$47-
