KPWB assists the volunteers with locating storm drains across the county to label and provides the tools and equipment to label the drains. Water quality information is provided to schools, businesses, organizations, community partners as part of the KPWB educational outreach programs and is consistently delivered to the public as part of KPWBs overall environmental literacy and advocacy mission. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: RECYCLING EDUCATION: Keep Prince William Beautiful provides recycling education to the residents, businesses, organizations, and partners on Prince William County statues, environmental, importance and environmental impacts of recycling, and reducing or reusing items to reduce the amount of litter collected at the Prince William County landfill. KPWB conducts, sponsors, or participates in educational and promotional events throughout the county that specifically target recycling education like the annual Fix-It-Fair and distribution of the County's recycling guide. Utilization, educator hours, and individual reach data is collected and reported to PWC and Virginia DEQ. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: BEAUTIFICATION: Keep Prince William Beautiful partners with residents, organizations, community partners and businesses to implement environmentally sound, green, and sustainable projects that result in beautiful spaces in the county. KPWB volunteers work on projects that include painting, planting, seeding, weeding, mulching, collecting litter and debris, and providing general support. IRS990/Desc0LITTER MANAGEMENT & PREVENTION: Keep Prince William Beautiful (KPWB) organizes community cleanup events and manages the Adopt-A-Spot (AAS) and Adopt-A-Shelter programs that support litter reduction and prevention across Prince William County. Residents, civic organizations, religious groups and businesses volunteer in community cleanups and can apply to adopt a particular area or bus shelter for cleanups. The commitment for the AAS program is a minimum of two cleanups per year and two per month for the Adopt-A-Shelter program with reporting requirements for both that details the number of volunteers, and the amount of litter collected. Cleanup data is compiled in annual totals and submitted to Prince William County Solid Waste Division (PWC) and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Last year KPWB managed over one hundred and forty-seven AAS and community cleanup events with over twenty-six-hundred volunteer hours and having collected over fifteen thousand pounds of litter and debris. KPWB also conducts quarterly Litter Surveys on behalf of PWC. Volunteers sign up for the program and receive training on how to assess the levels of litter at predesignated locations throughout the county. A rating scale of 1-4 is used based on the Community Appearance Index from Keep America Beautiful. The data collected from the surveys is shared with Keep America Beautiful and PWC. This helps the county identify areas of attention for the PWC Litter Crew and allows KPWB to target areas for either a community cleanup or AAS. Additionally, KPWB utilizes the assistance of volunteers to conduct Shopping Center Surveys on over 80 shopping centers across Prince William County. Volunteers are trained on completing the survey and evaluating the cleanliness of each site using a rating scale of 1-5. KPWB uses the results to coordinate with PWC and other community partners to implement cleanup measures or additional efforts with the shopping center management to increase or maintain the cleanliness and safety of the shopping center.
