“Other program services 4: litter survey: the litter survey is a quarterly survey of several key areas of prince william county. Those who volunteer for the program receive training and then spend the morning riding around the county rating the amount of litter they see using a 1 to 4 litter index scale (1 being none, 4 showing cleanup is needed). Kpwb reported an overall score of 1.41 which is deemed "good" for our region. According to keep america beautiful, the presence of litter can reduce property values by 7% and lead to increases in crime. Results of the survey are used by kpwb, county government, and national litter organizations to determine the effectiveness of local litter control programs and the cost of littering to the environment. Other program services 5: shopping center program: this program provides an opportunity for community members to evaluate the shopping centers in our area. Volunteers use a 25-point survey to inspect the property and report their findings. Items surveyed include graffiti, trash and recycling receptacles, aesthetics, safety features, and accessibility. Other program services 6: recycling education: one of three educational missions of kpwb, educating children and adults in classrooms, small groups and community expos. Other program services 7: storm drains: educating the community about stormwater management and stormwater pollution prevention will ensure a safer and cleaner environment for the nearby lakes, streams, and rivers, which we utilize for swimming, fishing, and as a source for drinking water.”
