Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Perf is generally exempt from federal income taxes under the provisions of section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (irc). In addition, perf qualifies for charitable contributions deductions under section 170(b)(1)(a) and has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under section 509(a)(1). Income that is not related to exempt purposes, less applicable deductions, is subject to federal and state corporate income taxes. Perf had no provisions for income taxes for the year ended december 31, 2019. Perf complies with the accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, which addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Management evaluated perfs tax positions and concluded that perf has taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustment to the financial statements to comply with the provisions of this guidance. Generally, perf is no longer subject to income tax examinations by the u.s. Federal, state or local tax authorities before 2016.

IN 2020, THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC REQUIRED PERF TO SUSPEND MOST IN-PERSON CONFERENCES AND SHIFT TO ONLINE MEETINGS AND INTERVIEWS OF EXPERTS. PERF ALSO HAS IMPLMENTED A SHIFT TOWARD ISSUING DAILY REPORTS OF OUR FINDINGS, RATHER THAN REPORTS THAT REQUIRE MONTHS TO PREPARE. MAJOR TOPICS IN 2019-20 INCLUDE EVERY ASPECT OF HOW THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS IMPACTED POLICING; MANAGEMENT OF PROTESTS, DEMONSTRATIONS, AND REFORM PROPOSALS FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD; AND OTHER MATTERS, SUCH AS ASSISTING VICTIMS OF MASS VIOLENCE; THE POLICE ROLE IN ADDRESSING HUMAN TRAFFICKING; (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) (CONTINUATION FROM PAGE 2) CHANGES IN THE ROLE OF LESS-LETHAL TECHNOLOGIES IN POLICING; COOPERATION BETWEEN POLICE AND PROSECUTORS; AND OTHER MATTERS.
