Mission

To represent and promote the interests of its members across the full range of staffing services they provide; to promote for the staffing industry a free enterprise environment through effective legal and public affairs advocacy; to encourage ethical business conduct; to provide information regarding the laws and regulations that apply to staffing services, especially those protecting the welfare of employees; to foster better public understanding of the industry and its role in the economy; and to provide education and other services to help members stay informed about the industry and their business.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Meetings:peer-group development and educational opportunities by way of its annual convention and exposition, meetings, certification courses, webinars and training seminars. Approximately 9,000 staffing industry professionals participated in asa meetings in 2012.
Activity 3
Legal/government relations: - led coalition of employers seeking to mitigate the impact of the affordable care act on businesses that employ large numbers of part-time, temporary, and seasonal workers- met with key staff house and senate leadership, senate health, education, labor and pensions committee, house education and workforce and energy and commerce committees to discuss possible legislative amendments to the affordable care act.- led grassroots lobbying effort against california, oregon, maryland, rhode island, and massachusetts anti-staffing bills- conducted comprehensive review of asa pac activities and implemented new fundraising strategies - supported federal legislation to reduce employer unemployment insurance costs- engaged in business coalition opposing national labor relations board regulations that would place unwarranted burdens on employers- met with key staff of senate health, education, labor and pensions committee on, and joined business coalition to support, legislation to modernize the flsa "computer employee" exemption- drafted workers' compensation best practices- participated in eeoc ad hoc coalition meetings to discuss strategy for employer compliance with new criminal history background check guidance- joined with business coalition to oppose human resource metrics proposed by the society for human resource management- filed comments with u.s. Citizenship and immigration services addressing proposed changes to the form i-9- published issue paper on california meal and rest period requirements- published issue paper on state medical marijuana laws- secured texas supreme court win to ensure worker's compensation protection for staffing firm clients- filed appeal challenging pennsylvania workers' compensation rating system as applied to staffing firms - hosted fourth annual staffing law conference featuring workshops on insurance issues, worker authorization and immigration laws, government enforcement initiatives, and health care reform developments
