Mission

It is the mission of HG Co Economic Development to promote growth and quality living through the revitalization of the economy and to ensure adequate housing, services, and a safe environment for all citizens of the County. We believe that providing good information and learning opportunities to our businesses and entrepreneurs will strengthen their ability to have a strong, sustainable business and that exposure to the entrepreneurial mindset will encourage young people to stay or come back to live in this community. We are also tasked with promoting the community as a good place to live, work and play in numerous publications, trade shows, and within the State, region and local community.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Small business Start Up Loans from NetWork Kansas were received and passed through in the amount of $28,000, the borrowers then repay these loans directly back to NetWork Kansas. The Mural grant was received in 2021, but not paid out until 2022. Business Development and Tourism Development totaled $9,812.85 -- these funds were used to put on programming for local businesses in the community, to assist them in being more sustainable and resilient, coming out of COVID 19. Classes, and one-on-one mentoring in marketing (social media marketing), record retention, Destination Creation, etc., as well as Youth Entrepreneurship Development. Unfortunately, we did not realize that we were required to keep exact numbers for these trainings, workshops and mentoring sessions, but have estimated to have reached 275 different persons in our community, some multiple times.$116,012$103,944

ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0The Director, Lea Ann Seiler, left the organization in 2022, she had started the 990 EZ and, but had not completed it, and it was inadvertently left in a file in the cabinet and when the new, Interim Director came -- she was not aware of it. Thus, she was completely unaware that anything was amiss until she received a letter from the IRS stating that the 990 for 2021 had not been filed last week. This is the Interim Director's first ever experience with a Non-Profit and she is learning, but had no guidance in this area. When she received the notice, she called the prior Director (Lea Ann Seiler) who came in to apologize and complete the 990 EZ for 2021, and help the Interim Director complete the 990 EZ for 2022. They completed an 8868, with an extension until Nov 15, 2023 (6 months from the original due date) and will have it completed in a timely manner. To complicate matters further, this is the first time that our 990 EZ was required to be filed online, so it is a learning process for all. Please accept our apologies as we strive to correct this matter.
