Part III Statement of Program Service Accomplishments, Line 28

The in-school tutorials are designed to provide assistance to teachers and students during classroom instructional time. During this time, a volunteer, who has been matched with a class based on their area of expertise, volunteers with that class for several hours each week. Through the in-school tutorials, students receive one-on-one help on subject matter material. Teachers and students have reported an improvement in comprehension of subject matter material as a result of the individualized tutorials. After-school tutorials are also provided in which students are helped with homework in math, science, reading and other subjects; assisted with college entrance exam practice, helped with completing college applications, and more. These services are provided to equip high school students with the tools, skills, and motivation they need to reach their ?next steps,? which are defined as any avenue for advancement, including college, the military, professional school, entrepreneurship, or employment.

Part III Statement of Program Service Accomplishments, Line 29

The program focuses on character development, academic performance, positive behavior, and conflict management/problem solving skills. The program provided individual and group mentoring to 9th-12th grade students in Macon County, AL. The mentors and mentees met once a week to discuss topics related to the mentees? personal development. Monthly group activities were conducted to facilitate bonding. Evaluations conducted showed that students who participated as mentees saw improvements in their academic, social and personal development. Mentors reported an improvement in their leadership and management skills, an expanded professional network, and that they were provided an empowering opportunity to give back to the community.

Part III Statement of Program Service Accomplishments, Line 30

These events highlighted engineers, communications experts, airplane pilots and mechanics. Students reported a greater understanding of potential career opportunities and several students connected with speakers after the event for further guidance and opportunity.
