| THE HEARTWAY OFFERS THE SERVICES OF A DEATH DOULA. THE UNIQUE ROLE OF A DEATH DOULA IS TO PROVIDE CARE THAT ENABLES THE INDIVIDUAL TO LIVE AS FULLY AS POSSIBLE, EVEN WHEN THE MEDICAL PROGNOSIS IS TERMINAL. THIS APPROACH IS COMPLEMENTARY TO THE ORIGINAL MISSION OF HOSPICE, OFFERING MORE HOLISTIC CARE FOR THE DYING WITH ADDITIONAL CHOICES FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT, DRAWN FROM HERBAL, HOMEOPATHIC, AND EASTERN MEDICINAL PRACTICES. THE DEATH DOULAS ROLE, PAIRED WITH TRADITIONAL HOSPICE CARE, CREATES THE SPACE FOR A MORE NATURAL DEATH, ENABLING THE INDIVIDUAL, THE CAREGIVERS, AND THE FAMILIES TO BENEFIT FROM A MORE COMPASSIONATE, SPIRITUAL, AND PRAGMATIC APPROACH TO NAVIGATING DYING AND THE GRIEVING PROCESSES. OUR COMPASSIONATE COUNSELORS AND SUPPORT STAFF CAN HOLD A SPACE FOR HEALING AND CREATE A SAFE PLACE FOR FEELINGS TO BE EXPRESSED AND EXPLORED BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER LOSS. “The heartway envisions a world where no-one dies alone, fear-laden, and has the opportunity to be met with compassion, respect, and loving care. The heartway is devoted to be an invaluable resource to the communities we serve by guiding those in end-of-life transitions, as well as offering support to their caregivers and loved ones. Through continual education, training, and advocacy the heartway provides a platform in hopes of inspiring an understanding of death that allows for an awakening in life. The heartway presents resources and tools to expand approaches in honoring death.”
“The heartway offers the services of a death doula. We understand that these feelings can be confusing, uncomfortable, frightening, and overwhelming. This is a time for the utmost love, respect, and patience. We also recognize that grief can be a deepening, enriching, and empowering process in our lives.”
“Death cafe is a place with a relaxed, open, and safe atmosphere where you are invited to share with others issues surrounding life and death. This cafe event is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session. Our objective is to increase awareness of death with a view helping individuals make the most of their finite lives.”
“Healing grief through art uses a variety of tools and art media to observe, validate and help one process the physical, emotional and complex feelings inherent with the passing of a loved one. Engaging with the creative process is known to support empathy, building coping skills, safe self-expression, acceptance, and confidence.”
