Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Pg's mission is to help people achieve their full potential through the dignity and power of work.in 2016, pg provided employment training and services to 44,420 people. Of the 44,420 people who received services, 4,869 were veterans. Through hiring events and other employment services, pg placed 1,847 people into jobs in sc. The ability to provide these programs and services is a direct result of the revenues generated through the sale of donations in goodwill retail stores. Over 90% of revenues generated go back into services for people. Pg operates programs designed to help people train for and find jobs that lead to economic independence. Pg provides job opportunities through 30 retail locations, 15 government and commercial contract sites, and with local businesses through goodpeople staffing. In addition, pg serves the community through various programs that help homeless and struggling veterans, youth, seniors and provides supportive employment for people with disabilities.

Palmetto goodwill is chartered through goodwill industries international to provide job training and employment services to veterans, seniors and people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Palmetto goodwill currently operates thirty retail stores and 14 career opportunity centers throughout beaufort, berkeley, charleston, colleton, darlington, dorchester, florence, georgetown, horry, orangeburg and sumter counties. Goodwill's commercial services provides work opportunities for people with disabilities and disadvantages through the ability one program. Local business and government entities rely on goodwill to provide contract services for food service, janitorial, commissary shelf stocking, switchboard, grounds keeping, and mail room services. Goodwill's retail sales generate mission revenues that support goodwill's job training programs and employment services.

THE ABILITY TO PROVIDE THESE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE REVENUES GENERATED THROUGH THE SALE OF DONATIONS IN GOODWILL RETAIL STORES. OVER 90% OF REVENUES GENERATED GO BACK INTO SERVICES FOR PEOPLE. PG OPERATES PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO HELP PEOPLE TRAIN FOR AND FIND JOBS THAT LEAD TO ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE. PG PROVIDES JOB OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH 30 RETAIL LOCATIONS, 15 GOVERNMENT AND COMMERCIAL CONTRACT SITES, AND WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES THROUGH GOODPEOPLE STAFFING. IN ADDITION, PG SERVES THE COMMUNITY THROUGH VARIOUS PROGRAMS THAT HELP HOMELESS AND STRUGGLING VETERANS, YOUTH, SENIORS AND PROVIDES SUPPORTIVE EMPLOYMENT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES.

GOODWILL'S VETERAN'S PROGRAM, THE PALMETTO WARRIOR CONNECTION, IS DESIGNED TO HELP ENSURE THAT POST 9/11 WARRIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES SUCCESSFULLY REINTEGRATE FROM MILITARY TO CIVILIAN LIFE BY LINKING THEM TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES NEEDED TO SECURE ADEQUATE HOUSING, SUCCESSFUL EMPLOYMENT, EDUCATION AND ACCESS TO BENEFITS FOR POST 9/11 WARRIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES.PALMETTO WARRIOR CONNECTION, A VETERAN SERVICE OF PALMETTO GOODWILL, STRIVES TO TRANSFORM THE LIVES OF OUR TRANSITIONING WARRIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT, HOUSING & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES. PWC IS THE "FIRST STOP" FOR ALL WARRIORS & THEIR FAMILIES TRANSITIONING TO OUR COMMUNITY. IN 2017, WE WERE ABLE TO OUTREACH 1,200 WARRIORS OF WHICH 48% ARE ELIGIBLE AND USING GI BILL. WE HELP TO FIND EMPLOYMENT FOR 150 AND MOVED 86 WARRIORS FROM HOMELESS TO PERMANENT HOUSING. WE ALSO SIGNED UP 59% OF WARRIORS FOR VA BENEFITS.FOOD SERVICE TRAINING IS PROVIDED THROUGH GOODWILL OPERATED SERVICE CONTRACTS WHERE PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND OTHER BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT LEARN ALL ASPECTS OF CULINARY SKILLS. PARTICIPANTS LEARN FOOD SAFETY, COOKING AND BAKING, SERVING LINE, DINING ROOM AND FRONT END SANITATION, BACKROOM OPERATIONS INCLUDING THE INDUSTRIAL POT/PAN SCULLERY AND DISH ROOM ACTIVITIES. EACH PARTICIPANT IS ASSIGNED TO AN EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST WHO DEVELOPS AN INDIVIDUALIZED SERVICE PLAN WITH A GOAL OF UPWARD MOBILITY WITHIN GOODWILL FOOD SERVICE OPERATIONS OR WITH OTHER CULINARY COMMUNITY EMPLOYERS.GOODWILL OPERATES 2 ANNUAL COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS: THE GOLDEN ANGEL TREE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO REACH OUT TO AREA SENIORS WHO ARE DISABLED OR ECONOMICALLY DEPENDENT ON GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS. MANY OF THE SENIORS WHO RECEIVE SERVICES THROUGH THIS PROGRAM LIVE ALONE, IN LOCAL NURSING HOMES OR RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITIES. GOODWILL DEPENDS ON THE KINDNESS OF COMMUNITY DONATIONS AND MONETARY CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THIS PROGRAM.THE SECOND COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM, GOODWILL'S VOUCHER PROGRAM, WAS ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE TO MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY WHOSE LIVES HAVE BEEN NEGATIVELY IMPACTED BY HOMELESSNESS, UNEMPLOYMENT, OR DISPLACEMENT DUE TO FIRES, FLOODS OR OTHER NATURAL DISASTERS. CLOTHING VOUCHERS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE AND OFFERED TO GOODWILL PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS WHO HAVE GRADUATED AND ARE IN NEED OF PROPER ATTIRE FOR JOB INTERVIEWS OR THOSE RECENTLY EMPLOYED AND IN NEED OF WORK UNIFORMS. IIN 2017, GOODWILL'S INVESTMENT TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THIS PROGRAM WAS A TOTAL OF 3,946 CLOTHING VOUCHERS WITH A VALUE OF $138,132.IN SUPPORT OF VETERANS, GOODWILL PARTNERS WITH THE RALPH H. JOHNSON VA MEDICAL CENTER IN A 1-DAY "STAND DOWN" EVENT WHERE PARTICIPANTS ARE PROVIDED WITH WARM MEALS, MEDICAL AND DENTAL SCREENINGS, HAIRCUTS, CLOTHING VOUCHERS AND EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE. LOCAL AGENCIES ARE ALSO ON HAND TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ON SERVICES FOR VETERANS. IN 2017, GOODWILL PROVIDED NEW UNDERGARMENTS, CLOTHING VOUCHERS AND EMPLOYMENT SERVICES TO 300 PEOPLE DURING THIS EVENT. GOODWILL DEPENDS ON THE GENEROSITY OF THE COMMUNITY TO HELP PROVIDE NEW UNDERGARMENTS AND HOLDS AN ANNUAL MOTORCYCLE CHARITY RIDE IN SUPPORT OF VETERANS WHO ATTEND THE STAND DOWN.
