Mission and Program Overview

Mission

At the heart of artechs mission is our goal of providing our community a supportive environment where they can explore and expand the possibilities of their imagination. This goes beyond simply teaching them how to create art. We believe in the transformative power of creativity. We have seen first-hand how exposure to creativity in an encouraging and safe learning environment has helped people find their voice and passion. As people are exposed to art and the creative process, it becomes an integral part of their lives. These experiences will be the catalyst to a lifetime appreciation of and a respect for their own creativity and the creativity of others.

Design and oversight of the reno playa art park. For the past five years, weve brought major sculptures from the burning man festival to downtown reno, transforming a vacant lot in the heart of the casino district into a colorful, welcoming place for visitors and locals to interact with public art. Art by world-famous sculptors, with each installation lasting for a year. In 2016 and 17 there were 6-8 pieces installed but in 2018-19, we placed 10-12 sculptures from the 2018 burning man event and added 4 more in 2019. After de-installing the playa art park in 2020 we placed 3 sculptures from the 2019 park in 3 different locations: identity awareness by shane pitzer was placed downtown sparks, angel wings by kyle larrain was moved to franktown equestrian center and then placed at northwest library in sparks for the next 2 years, 3 sculptures went to franktown meadows equestrian center for a year long installation. Working with local developers artech installed 2 more sculptures in downtown reno for the reno neon line and 3 sculptures for red, a new apartment complex on plumb avenue. Production of the sierra arts festival for 2021 was initiated in 2020 as the continuation of reno art fest 2018 and 2019. This event featured local, regional and national artists in downtown reno, on no. Virginia street between 4th and 6th streets. This highlighted the casino area in a vibrant new way, bringing families and visitors downtown to experience fine art, live mural painting, music, dance and local performers. Mentoring youth through the washoe county high school sculpture competition, resulting in a student exhibit in the artech art gallery, at our location at 130 woodland avenue, reno. This sculpture competition has grown from 35 entries in 2016 to over 50 entries for 2019. The annual competition awards 2,000 to students. Chair-ity artech hosted a fundraiser event in september 2020 inviting local artists to paint 35 chairs which were auctioned off on line and in the studio with proceeds benefitting both artech and the artists. There was live music and refreshments developing an affordable art educational program in our community outreach space at on woodland. Artech has an amazing multi-purpose space with many artists working there and is perfect for classes. Our plans are to increase the workshops and classes offered there, especially reaching out to youth. In 2020 we partnered with the sierra arts foundations art academy to bring workshops to our studio space so artists, artech and sierra arts c
