Mission and Program Overview

Mission

At the heart of artechs mission is our goal of providing our community a supportive environment where they can explore and expand the possibilities of their imagination. This goes beyond simply teaching them how to create art. We believe in the transformative power of creativity. We have seen first-hand how exposure to creativity in an encouraging and safe learning environment has helped people find their voice and passion. As people are exposed to art and the creative process, it becomes an integral part of their lives. These experiences will be the catalyst to a lifetime appreciation of and a respect for their own creativity and the creativity of others.

Design and oversight of the reno playa art park. For the past two years, weve brought major sculptures from the burning man festival to downtown reno, transforming a vacant lot in the heart of the casino district into a colorful, welcoming place for visitors and locals to interact with public art. Art by world-famous sculptors, with each installation lasting for a year. In 2016 and 17 there were 6-8 pieces installed and 2018-19, we placed 10 sculptures from the 2018 burning man event. Production of the reno art fest 2018 a 2-day art festival june 30- july 1, 2018. We took over this event from the city of reno arts and culture commission who has been producing it since 2011. This event featured local, regional and national artists in downtown reno, on no. Virginia street between 4th and 6th streets. This highlighted the casino area in a vibrant new way, bringing families and visitors downtown to experience fine art, live mural painting, music, dance and local performers. Reno art fest 2018 featured numerous artists tents whose original work of 2 and 3-dimensional fine art included a full spectrum of the arts including acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, glass, stone and metal sculptures, and wood and clay pieces. Artists were on-site to discuss their work available for purchase. Best of show received 1,000 plus a solo show at the sierra arts gallery including an opening reception, awards of excellence 2 @ 750, judges choice 500, awards of merit 4 @ 250: total 4000. We collaborated with the 24-hour circus circus mural marathon (5 20 x 8 murals were painted on the virginia street walls of circus circus in 24 hours) and northern nevada's controlled burn hosted a fire festival on saturday evening from 7:00 10:00 pm featuring aerialists, drummers and a variety of fire performers. There were local food trucks, wine and beer concession available. A special "childrens creative zone" with hula-hoops, balloons, bubbles, face painting, puppets and interactive art projects for children and adults of all ages was a featured tent. We partnered with local non-profits such as the kiwanis club bike program, sierra arts foundation, boys and girls club and the discovery museum for additional family activity programming. Mentoring youth through the washoe county high school sculpture competition, resulted in a student exhibit in the artech art gallery, at our location at 130 woodland avenue, reno. This sculpture competition has grown from 35 entries in 2016 to over 50 entries for 2018. The annual competition was held in april 2018. Student awards total 1,700. Developing an affordable art educational program in our community outreach space at on woodland. Artech has an amazing multi-purpose space with many artists working there and is perfect for classes. Our plans are to increase the workshops and classes offered there.
