“Christine conway, the mother of susan conway, the executive director sits on the board.”
“Board of directors reviews and approves the 990 before filing with the irs.”
“The board of directors reviews and signs the conflict of interest policy annually.”
“The board determines ed compensation through a process whereby a compensation committee evaluates the labor market and comparable salary information. Ongoing compensation rates are determined by a process of performance evaluation and market-based increases to cost of living. The ed is not involved in the process of determining compensation, nor is any related party. 2020 was the first year the ed position was full-time and salaried. The ad hoc committee then consisted of 4 members. The committee researched eight non-profit organizations, within the same labor market, that had similarity in some way to tri. Size of organization, annual revenue, age of organization were taken into consideration when looking at the ed salary for each of these organizations, compared to tri. Based on the compilation of that data, the revenue history and revenue projections for tri for the coming year, the committee made a recommendation to the board of directors for the ed salary and benefits. The board voted and approved the recommendation.”

“Foreign exchange gain 3,719.”
“The board of directors assumes responsibility for oversight over the compilation of the financial statements.”
“By partnering with vulnerable communities in ethiopia, we strive to equip vulnerable people to live stable and sustainable lives. Our mission is to cultivate community development and economic capacity by empowering families through education, health and income generating activities. Our work with vulnerable communities over the past 10 years has firmly formed our understanding of this reality: quality education, access to accurate information and direct physical health care, and the opportunity to secure income and economic stability are critical factors in sustaining life outside of poverty. Our model is strategically designed to replace the cycle of generational loss, joblessness and chronic illness with a cycle of restoration by focusing our programs on strengthening education, health care and livelihoods. True sustainability is only possible when the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors within a community support its continued development. We are relentlessly focused on increasing community ownership throughout the life of each 7-10 year project so that community leaders can transition into full support of project activities.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | ETHIOPIA OPERATIONS: WE PARTNER WITH RURAL COMMUNITIES TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE PATHWAYS OUT OF POVERTY BY:1) DELIVERING HIGH-QUALITY HEALTH EDUCATION, EMPOWERING COMMUNITY HEALTH TRAINERS, AND GIVING DIRECT MEDICAL CARE SO THAT PEOPLE CAN LIVE LONG AND HEALTHY LIVES. 2) RESTORING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS TO LEARN THROUGH HIGH QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD, PRIMARY, SECONDARY, AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION.3) EQUIPPING MEN AND WOMEN TO EARN A PREDICTABLE INCOME THROUGH BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT TRAINING AND SAVINGS GROUPS TO CREATE FINANCIAL RESILIENCE.4) BUILDING THE CAPACITY OF COMMUNITY LEADERS TO MAINTAIN PROGRAM INITIATIVES, SO THAT COMMUNITIES CAN SUSTAIN GAINS AND THRIVE FOR YEARS TO COME.AS THE COVID-19 CRISIS CONTINUED TO INCREASE FOOD INSECURITY IN 2021, WE WERE ABLE TO DISTRIBUTE SHEEP TO FAMILIES IN OUR CRITICAL CARE PROGRAM. IN A COLLABORATIVE PROCESS WITH THE ESTABLISHED COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE, FAMILIES IN OUR CRITICAL CARE PROGRAM WERE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM. THE ACQUISITION OF LIVESTOCK, SUCH AS SHEEP, FOR FATTENING, CAN BRING FAST AND SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS TO A FAMILY'S LIVELIHOOD. UNLIKE OTHER FARMING ACTIVITIES, WHICH MAY ONLY PRODUCE ONCE PER YEAR, HOUSEHOLDS CAN FATTEN SHEEP MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO EARN A GOOD PROFIT. IT IS A LONG-TERM INVESTMENT WITH HIGH RETURNS AND HELPS PUT FAMILIES ON A PATH TOWARDS EARNING A RELIABLE SOURCE OF INCOME. ADDITIONALLY, 150 FAMILIES IN OUR CRITICAL CARE PROGRAM RECEIVED SCHOOL UNIFORMS/SUPPLIES, NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT, AND COVID-19 RELIEF DISTRIBUTION.WE PROVIDED TRAINING TO VULNERABLE WOMEN THROUGH TWO PROGRAMS. 225 WOMEN WERE TRAINED AND SUPPORTED IN SAVINGS GROUPS FOR PEER-TO-PEER LENDING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, SAVING A TOTAL OF $1,753.00 THIS YEAR. 82 WOMEN WERE TRAINED FOR THE UPCOMING PARTICIPATION IN CARE GROUPS, A NEW COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER PROGRAM.IN 2021, THREE ROOTS WAS GIVEN OWNERSHIP AND FULL ADMINISTRATION OF BABOGAYA PRIMARY SCHOOL (BPS). BPS SERVED 388 VULNERABLE STUDENTS, GRADES K-8, PROVIDED AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING FOR 50 EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS, AND ACHIEVED ITS FIRST 100% EIGHT GRADE PASSING RATE. THREE ROOTS FIRST CAME ALONGSIDE OF THE BPS IN 2017, FUNDING AND REHABILITATING THE FACILITIES AND INVESTING HEAVILY IN QUALITY INSTRUCTION AND TEACHER TRAINING. AT THAT TIME, THE EIGHTH GRADE PASSING RATE WAS 49%, SO THE 100% PASSING RATE IN 2021 MORE THAN DOUBLES THE RESULTS FROM 4 YEARS PRIOR. THE SCHOOL NOW HAS WATER, LATRINES, A FULL STAFF OF TEACHERS AND A THRIVING KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM. WE ARE THRILLED THAT THE OROMO REGIONAL GOVERNMENT HAS AWARDED THREE ROOTS WITH FULL LEGAL OWNERSHIP OF THE BABOGAYA PRIMARY SCHOOL, MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO CONTINUE SUSTAINING GAINS IN QUALITY AND SERVICES PROVIDED THROUGH THE SCHOOL. 2021 SAW BPS WELCOME A NEW SCHOOL DIRECTOR, TEACHERS, AND IMPROVED ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSES AND POSSIBILITIES FOR REACHING HUNDREDS OF HOUSEHOLDS WITH LIFE-SAVING EDUCATION. |

THE BOARD VOTED AND APPROVED THE RECOMMENDATION. |

WE ARE RELENTLESSLY FOCUSED ON INCREASING COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP THROUGHOUT THE LIFE OF EACH 7-10 YEAR PROJECT SO THAT COMMUNITY LEADERS CAN TRANSITION INTO FULL SUPPORT OF PROJECT ACTIVITIES. |
