Form 990, Part I, Line 1

By partnering with vulnerable communities in ethiopia, we strive to equip vulnerable people to live stable and sustainable lives. Our mission is to cultivate community development and economic capacity by empowering families through education, health and income generating activities. Our work with vulnerable communities over the past 10 years has firmly formed our understanding of this reality: quality education, access to accurate information and direct physical health care, and the opportunity to secure income and economic stability are critical factors in sustaining life outside of poverty. Our model is strategically designed to replace the cycle of generational loss, joblessness and chronic illness with a cycle of restoration by focusing our programs on strengthening education, health care and livelihoods. True sustainability is only possible when the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors within a community support its continued development. We are relentlessly focused on increasing community ownership throughout the life of each 7-10 year project so that community leaders can transition into full support of project activities.

Form 990, Part XII, Line 2C

The board of directors assumes responsibility for oversight over the compilation of the financial statements.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

In accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, accounting standards require an entity to recognize the financial statement impact of a tax position when it is more-likely-than-not that the position will not be sustained upon examination. Management evaluated three roots' tax positions and concluded there are no uncertain tax positions that require adjustment to the financial statements to comply with the provisions of this guidance.

IRS990/Desc0ETHIOPIA OPERATIONS: WE PARTNER WITH RURAL COMMUNITIES TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE PATHWAYS OUT OF POVERTY BY:1) DELIVERING HIGH-QUALITY HEALTH EDUCATION AND EMPOWERING COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS SO THAT PEOPLE CAN LIVE LONG AND HEALTHY LIVES.2) RESTORING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS TO LEARN THROUGH HIGH QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD, PRIMARY, AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION.3) EQUIPPING MEN AND WOMEN TO EARN A PREDICTABLE INCOME THROUGH BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT TRAINING AND SAVINGS GROUPS TO CREATE FINANCIAL RESILIENCE.4) BUILDING THE CAPACITY OF COMMUNITY LEADERS TO MAINTAIN PROGRAM INITIATIVES, SO THAT COMMUNITIES CAN SUSTAIN GAINS AND THRIVE FOR YEARS TO COME.AS ETHIOPIA CONTINUES TO REACT TO THE CHALLENGES CREATED BY THE COVID PANDEMIC AND INTERNAL CONFLICT, OUR PROGRAMMING CONTINUED TO ADDRESS WIDENING INEQUITIES, AS NOTED IN THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL POVERTY INDEX (MPI). IN 2024, WE SAW EXPANSION OF OUR SAVINGS GROUPS FOR PEER-TO-PEER LENDING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, AS 386 WOMEN PARTICIPATED ACROSS 20 GROUPS, A 17% INCREASE IN PROGRAM PARTICIPATION. AS WOMEN BUILD FINANCIAL LITERACY, SO TOO, DO FAMILIES INCREASE HOUSEHOLD ASSETS, BUILD SAVINGS FOR CRISES, AND STRENGTHEN SHARED DECISION-MAKING. 100% OF WOMEN REPORT INCREASED SOCIAL SUPPORT AND RESILIENCE THROUGH THE PROGRAM. WE LAUNCHED OUR POWERFUL NEW HEALTH PROGRAM TO IMPROVE MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH, TRAINING 82 WOMEN FOR PARTICIPATION AS VOLUNTEER HEALTH EDUCATORS USING THE CARE GROUP MODEL, AND REACHING 799 WOMEN WITH CRITICAL AND LIFESAVING HEALTH EDUCATION. 30 WOMEN WERE TRAINED IN ARTISAN GROUPS ON SKILLS TO INCLUDE: DESIGN, SEWING, CRAFT CONSTRUCTION, AND QUALITY CONTROL. TO OFFSET ECONOMIC HARDSHIP FOR ADOLESCENTS ACROSS COMMUNITIES, WE LAUNCHED A NEW PROGRAM TO INCREASE SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND CREATE PATHWAYS TO DIGNIFIED EMPLOYMENT. PARTNERING WITH THE BABOGAYA TECHNICAL COLLEGE, WE SUPPORTED 78 YOUTH WITH TUITION FOR VOCATIONAL TRAINING COURSES. THESE YOUTH NOW HAVE A SECOND CHANCE AT EMPLOYMENT AND LIVELIHOODS. IN 2024, THREE ROOTS STRENGTHENED THE QUALITY AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AT THE BABOGAYA PRIMARY SCHOOL (BPS). BPS SERVED 442 VULNERABLE STUDENTS, GRADES K-8, PROVIDED AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING AND 10 CLUBS FOR STUDENTS, RANGING FROM SOCIAL SKILLS, TO ADVOCACY, TO SPORTS AND RECREATION. THREE ROOTS FIRST CAME ALONGSIDE BPS IN 2017, FUNDING AND REHABILITATING THE FACILITIES AND INVESTING HEAVILY IN QUALITY INSTRUCTION AND TEACHER TRAINING. AT THAT TIME, SCHOOL RATING WAS 0, OUT OF 4. WE ARE THRILLED THAT THE OROMO REGIONAL GOVERNMENT AWARDED THREE ROOTS WITH COMMENDATION REGARDING THE INCREASED QUALITY OF INSTRUCTION AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT, WITH A RATING OF 3 IN 2024. THE SCHOOL NOW HAS WATER, 3 LATRINE BLOCKS, A FULL STAFF OF TEACHERS AND A THRIVING KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM, SERVING 48 STUDENTS. OUR COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION WAS EVIDENT IN 2024, AS OUR COMMUNITY-BASED LEADERSHIP STRUCTURES AND CHURCH ENGAGEMENT GREW, WITH 31 ENGAGED COMMUNITY LEADERS. THE PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE STRENGTHENED THEIR MOBILIZATION OF PARENTS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS TO MANAGE CHALLENGES AND INCREASE PARTICIPATION. ADDITIONAL COMMITTEES WERE LAUNCHED. ADDITIONALLY, WE CONTINUED TO SUPPORT 138 FAMILIES WHO ARE HIGHLY VULNERABLE, IN OUR CRITICAL CARE PROGRAM, THROUGH PROVISION OF SCHOOL UNIFORMS/SUPPLIES, NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT, TO DEFER INDIRECT COST OF SCHOOL AND FOOD INSECURITY.
