Management has concluded that any tax positions that would not meet the more-likely-than-not criterion of Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) Topic 740-10, Accounting for Income Taxes, would be immaterial to the financial statements taken as a whole. Accordingly, the accompanying financial statements do not include any provision for uncertain tax positions, and no related interest or penalties have been recorded in the statement of activities or accrued in the statement of financial position. IRS990/Desc0In 2018, Crossroads distributed 2.25 million pounds of nutritious food to 11,970 individuals in Dallas County and Mabank, TX (enough food for families to prepare approximately 1,875,000 balanced meals) and has an approximate retail value of $4.5 million. On average, a family of four leaves the Crossroads' pantry with 100 pounds of food. Because it is difficult to measure the true impact of an individual organization's food distribution program, Crossroads works with medical and academic research partners such as UT Southwestern Medical Center of Dallas, UT Dallas, and the University of Dallas to discern if clients benefit from our services. Research Partner Dr. Xia Si (UT, Dallas) found that Crossroads helped fill the void once a Women Infant and Children (WIC) recipient became ineligible. Food from Crossroads offsets 50 to 94% of the lost WIC benefits. Crossroads' Food Distribution Program achieves the following outcomes: 1) Clients spend less time and resources traveling to multiple pantries to gather food; 2) Families living in food deserts have easy access to substantial amounts of vegetables, fruits, proteins, grains, and dairy to prepare balanced meals; 3) Limited financial resources of the household become available to pay other significant expenses such as childcare, medical bills, or rent. Crossroads Community Services' Food Distribution program is an innovative, research-focused program. A Registered Dietitian with 30 years of experience helped develop the Crossroads Nutrition-Based Food Selection System, an algorithm that helps match kinds and amounts of food received based on age, gender, and activity of each household member according to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. In addition, Crossroads pioneered a Hub-and-Spoke food distribution model where Crossroads serves as the Hub and CDPs serve as Spokes. Crossroads' CDP Network includes community centers, retirement centers, places of worship, Dallas Housing Authority apartment complexes, and agencies. This model enables diverse organizations to distribute substantial amounts of nutritious food without having to meet the compliance standards required of a full-fledged North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) food pantry. Crossroads has the infrastructure, staff, consulting registered dietitian, and partnership with the NTFB. CDPs have the facility, vehicles, labor, passion and commitment to nourish their neighbors who have a chronic need for food. CDPs reduced clients' average round-trip distance to acquire food from 15 to 3.2 miles, saving valuable time and money. In 2015, NTFB incorporated Crossroads' Hub-and-Spoke model into their 10-year strategic expansion plan for their 13-county area. In 2018, NTFB asked Crossroads to carry-on their legacy of service in the southern sector of Dallas County as well as Ellis and Navarro counties, and to begin serving NTFB agencies in the new service area. They also invited Crossroads to move its operations to the NTFB's Pollock Campus located at 4500 S. Cockrell Hill Rd, Dallas, TX 75236. Crossroads gratefully accepted.
