Mission

To build a thriving and more just community, Community Matters goes beyond the traditional nonprofit model by forming partnerships with our neighbors instead of viewing them only as clients to be provided a service. We believe our neighbors are experts in the needs and strengths of our community and should be the primary voice advocating for community needs and leading community initiatives.Alongside our neighbors, Community Matters currently focuses on four pillars of work: 1) Family Sustainability, all families have the resources to achieve their goals; 2) Education Pathways, adult learners have the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills; 3) Community Leadership, residents spearhead community development and hold power in community institutions; and 4) Neighborhood Development, Lower Price Hill is an affordable and vibrant place to live.

Community Matters Cincinnati, Inc. is exempt from income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and a similar provision of Ohio law. However, it is subject to federal income tax on any unrelated business taxable income. Community Matters Holdings, LLC is treated as a disregarded entity of Community Matters Cincinnati, Inc. for tax purposes and profits and losses pass-through directly to Community Matters Cincinnati, Inc. The Organization's IRS Form 990 is subject to review and examination by federal and state authorities. The Organization believes it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and therefore, does not have any uncertain income tax positions that are material to the consolidated financial statements.

IRS990/MissionDesc0Community Matters exists to create a thriving and more just community by removing barriers to opportunity. We work alongside our neighbors to create opportunities, engage the community in the development process, create ways to serve together, and re-build the local economy through social entrepreneurship. Community Matters was created from the will of Lower Price Hill residents to address the overwhelming disparity in access to opportunities. All our work is created from listening to the ideas of residents who are seeking to change the current environment of 48% living in poverty, 66% unemployment rate, 90% renters without access to truly dignified housing, and the second lowest life expectancy rate in Cincinnati. Our programs challenge the idea that social services alone are the answer to our needs. Instead, we believe that our community has the ability to meet its needs and to create long-term well-being by investing directly in our neighbors' abilities and expertise.
