Additional Explanations

General explanation attachment

This after-school program is being organized specifically for educational purposes under the Internal Revenue Code. No part of the net earnings of the after-school program shall inure to the benefit of or be distributable to its members, trustees, officers or other private persons, except that it shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of its stated purposes. No substantial part of the activities of the after-school program shall be the carrying on of propaganda or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, nor shall it participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements) any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office. The after-school program will provide children from Pre-K to Sixth Grade, with varied educational and cultural activities from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm. This community-based after-school program will provide greatly needed services for working families whose children need supervision once the school day is completed and the parents are still at work. The program will be staffed with multi-talented people who will be available to assist children with their homework, teach them Spanish and Chinese as second languages, improve the ability of immigrants to converse in English, let attendees explore new cultural experiences, teach them musical instruments, and provide them with skills in arts and crafts, drawing, painting, dancing, singing and sports, where the public schools have had to cut back on such programs due to fiscal budget restraints. By keeping children involved in this program, not only will the community at large benefit, the children themselves will be less likely to get into trouble than if they were wandering around the streets with no supervision and no focused activities. Providing children with homework assistance at the after-school program will not only enhance the quality of the parent-child relationship at home, but will also give the parent another source of information regarding the childs educational progress. The after-school programs goal of teaching English, Spanish and Chinese will broaden the cultural outlook of the participating children, making them better residents of the city and country at large. It will also have the positive effect of enhancing their future business and employment opportunities, both locally and globally. Increasing the cultural diversity of children increases their tolerance and ability to relate to those of other social, economic and ethnic backgrounds. The after-school program will expose the children to arts and crafts, drawing, painting, dancing and singing, musical instruments and sports, experiences they may not otherwise have. The communitys next great artist, musician or sportsman may be discovered through the classes given by this after-school program. It has also been shown through study after study that exposure to arts programs motivates children, making them better students and improving their test scores.
