Haigler Community Foundation is a nonprofit public benefit corporation, organized in the state of Nebraska for any lawful purpose allowed under the general corporation code. Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
In September, 2016, the Haigler Community Foundation again partnered with the Nebraska Arts Council to bring a talented entertainer to this part of the state. September 17 at the Cornerstone Center for Community Service was the site for the Cowboy and Cowgirl Roundup Event. Joan Wells, a well known trick roper highlighted the program with her performance on stage. Live Country Music, a hamburger cookout, and arena Olympics delighted the crowd attending. People of all ages enjoyed the stick horse parade, and games like boot scramble and roping. Over 300 people attended this event. Much advertising is done through newspapers, social media, radio, and fliers. This program was also the kickoff for a fund drive to install heating and air conditioning in the 1936 historic gymnasium. When completed, this project will enable the Foundation to provide more year round events at this facility at the Cornerstone Center for Community Service. We are hopeful the project can be done early in 2017--if funds are raised. Total cost estimates are $35,000.$428$2,834
The 3rd program service accomplishment focuses once again on the Tumbleweed Festival. 2016 was the 9th year for this event held on the Haigler Museum grounds, main street and Highway 34. Since the Haigler Community Foundation was deeded this year the Jail Museum, the One-Room Country Schoolhouse Museum, and the Conoco Station Museum; the Tumbleweed Festival focused on open house for all of these museums for the community. Food, drink, chili cookoff, a spook parade, decorated tumbleweed displays and prizes, games, and pumpkin decorating were all enjoyed by attendees. Free will donations were received to help cover costs of repairs being done to some of the buildings. All of the museums have a place in preserving the history of this community--a farming and ranching community here in rural Nebraska. Many items have been donated by families throughout the past 10 years when the first museum was initiated. The Conoco Station Museum sits along main street and Highway 34. Working with our local, county, and state tourism groups, it is hoped that within the next 5 years this museum will become a tourist stop for tourists entering Nebraska through the southwestern portal from Colorado. The Haigler Community Foundation is also working with these groups to rename Highway 34 back to "The GoldenRod Highway" (well known as this in the 1920's and 1930's). So, work continues to preserve history through these Haigler Museums ---now all but one museum is owned by the Haigler Community Foundation; and it (the Cornerstone Museum) will be deeded to the Foundation in the near future. This annual Tumbleweed Festival is the only program event at this time that gives primary focus to the Haigler Museums. People come from throughout the tri-state area we serve (NE, CO, and KS) to attend the festival--all ages, and 300+ come to Haigler for the Tumbleweed Festival.$0$980
The year 2016 was filled with many program service accomplishments. Ten major program events were hosted by the Foundation and partnerships developed throughout the tri-state communities we serve. The top three will be described again for this year; but other programs included a Winter Festival, Basketball Hoop Shoot for Kids, Sunshine Thrift and Mini-Mall Bunny Bag Sales, Memorial/Alumni Weekend Dance, Open house, and Pot Luck Luncheon, a Car Show, 4th of July Celebration with musical entertainment and fireworks, and the 3rd annual Gun & Craft Show. One of the most popular programs was The 2nd Spring Dundy Roo Festival held May 7 at the Cornerstone Center for Community Service (former Haigler Schools facility) brought artists, art guilds, and crafters to display their work. Over 50 vendors set up their booths to display their creative talents for attendees. Our tradition of bringing 'the arts' to this part of rural southwest Nebraska held true in partnering with the Nebraska Arts Council for a touring grant to bring a native American Indian Dancer, Garan Coons, to perform on stage. Again the tradition of our events has been to serve our communities therefore no admission charge. Free will donations are encouraged and accepted to help defray costs of each program event offered. This has worked well for the Foundation. Over 300 people from the Haigler and surrounding communities attended this year's Festival. Remember our Haigler population is only 150 people so our events more than double our population! Food & drink were also provided; festival hours were 11 a.m.-6 p.m.$661$920
Reference the first year of operation in 2014 for the Haigler Community Foundation. The 2nd year of operation in 2015 saw a growth in the services offered by the Foundation for the communities served; and a growth in the overall net assets at the close of operations for 2015. A total of 10 program service accomplishments happened in 2015 for the communities we serve. This is almost one major event every month. The diversity of these programs is terrific. Working in partnership with many entities, the Haigler Community Foundation was able to bring quality programs and events to the people in this area of the state and surrounding areas--and keep the doors open at the Cornerstone Center for Community Service (former closed school buildings now owned by the Foundation). The 3 largest program services were the Spring DundyRoo Festival, the Fall Tumbleweed Festival, and the November Gun & Craft Show. *1)SPRING DUNDYROO FESTIVAL- bringing artists and crafters from throughout the tri-state area of NE, KS, and CO to our community. The visibility of cultural arts in the Haigler area has not in the past been strong. The Haigler Community Foundation is trying to be the leader in changing this. This was the first Spring DundyRoo Festival. It was most successful, and will become an annual event. On site educational demonstrations and displays; food, drink, & entertainment; free admission with donations to the Foundation appreciated. This seems to generate more donations than charging an admission fee for our events. Over 40 talented artists and 35 crafters (included students from schools/colleges) were on site. Attendance for the day was over 300, and included people of all ages. We are working with the Nebraska Arts Council for a matching grant for the 2016 event, continuing to enhance and enrich the cultural offerings in our communities for our diverse population. Program service expenses listed here were included in Part I Expenses. Costs of producing a festival of this dimension are kept lower because of the dedicated community volunteers, businesses, individuals, Haigler Community Foundation Board of Directors and Advisory Council members.$0$0
FALL TUMBLEWEED FESTIVAL. This event is held in October, and 2015 was the 8th year of this now annual fall festival. Initially began as a fundraiser for the first Haigler museum, a one-room country schoolhouse moved from the country to Haigler , preserved and restored. This museum is in the process of being deeded to the Haigler Community Foundation and will be done in 2016. The Fall Tumbleweed Festival is now under the auspices of the Foundation and is held on the museum grounds whereas most other events are held at the Cornerstone Center for Community Service. True to the Foundation's educational and charitable purposes, all Haigler Museums are open to the public during the Fall Tumbleweed Festival. Other activities include village wide garage sales, including the Sunshine Thrift at the Cornerstone Center (owned by the Foundation). Live music, entertainment, a chili cook off (new this year), food, treasure hunts and other outside activities for children and adults are offered. Pumpkin decorating and displays highlight the activities. Tumbleweeds are gathered from everywhere, creatively decorated, and displayed along Main street. Working in partnership with local businesses and the Haigler Golden Inn Senior Center, many prizes are offered and many homemade pies eaten. This is a one day event and draws crowds from throughout the tri-state area and beyond. (300-400 people of all ages attend). Community is very much involved in this event, and the media coverage of the festival is outstanding. Now, a traditional annual event, it is hoped to be even better next year by working in partnership with the Nebraska Humanities and Cultural Endowment to add additional programs at the Tumbleweed Festival for the communities we serve. Program service expenses listed here were included in Part I expenses. Community volunteers, businesses, individuals, Haigler Community Foundation Board of Directors and Advisory Council members all help contribute to keep the costs lower of offering these events for our communities$0$0
HAIGLER GUN AND CRAFT SHOW. 2015 was the second year for this event, held in November the weekend before Thanksgiving. It is a 2 day event held at the Cornerstone Center for Community Services. This year's show drew 500-600 attendees from the tri state area of Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado; but also Wyoming and South Dakota. A full house of vendors' displays filled the gymnasium, hallways, and suites at the Center. Once again, no admission fee was charged. People were asked to give a free will donation to the Foundation for hosting the show for the community. This works well. Food and entertainment were available. Working in partnership with businesses engaged in hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation; the show was a great success. Over 60 vendors were displaying merchandise. Much advertising was done on social media, facebook, newspapers, radio, and television. Visibility and coverage of the event both before and after the show were great. The Haigler Gun and Craft show has become another annual event. The nearest like show for this area is 75-100 miles away; so this event fills a need here in the community. There are many outdoor recreation activities, and next year the Foundation hopes to work more with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to bring additional programs and displays to the show. The program service expenses listed here were earlier included in Part I expenses.$0$0

Food & drink were also provided; festival hours were 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
IRS990EZ/ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp/DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt4In September, 2016, the Haigler Community Foundation again partnered with the Nebraska Arts Council to bring a talented entertainer to this part of the state. Total cost estimates are $35,000.
IRS990EZ/ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp/DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt5The 3rd program service accomplishment focuses once again on the Tumbleweed Festival. People come from throughout the tri-state area we serve (NE, CO, and KS) to attend the festival--all ages, and 300+ come to Haigler for the Tumbleweed Festival.
